| anyone into motorcycles? My roomate and i are plannin on getting one sometime in the future when i finish school. Even though i havent decided what bikei wanted yet, i already know what my 2 custom helmets are gonna look like :) |

Hey guys first off let me tell you my situation..
well im 19 and ive been riding for close to 12 years.. i started on a mini bike i built with my uncle and graduated to a kawasaki kx 80 (small dirt bike) i began racing motocross and eventually sold that bike to buy a suzuki rm 125 (larger dirt bike) i did motocross till i was 16 then i sold my bikes to buy my car. I saved my money and in my senior year i bought a 2002 Yamaha R6 and ive loved every minute of it.

As far as your 1st bike..
You can die riding anything.. your bicycle - a 50cc moped - or a 1000cc sportbike.. with that in mind.. you should decide what fits you best.
as far as learning on it.. i think its fine to learn on a sport bike.. and 600cc isnt to big.. although you can go very hi speeds.. but only if you twist the throttle.. its all in your hands. (people who say a bike is too fast.. should realise its only as fast as you twist the throttle.. the bike doesnt move unless you make it.. if its going too fast.. then thats your own fault)
Do yourselves a favor tho and buy the book.. "Proficient Motorcycling" its a great tool in learning motorcycle safety and i wouldnt suggest riding on the road before reading it. Also knowing someone who rides will help tremendously.
Bike Suggestion: The Yamaha R6. Its the Way to go.
Price: About $9000.00 when done with tax and such.

The Gray Bike posted above is a 2003 Yamaha R1. Manufacturer's Sugg. Retail Price...$10,299 ~ $10,399 (add about 1000-1500 for tax and such)

My bike.. (the blue bike) is a 2002 Yamaha R6. You can get them now used.. for around $7000.00 (When new msrp was same as the 03 and it came to about 9000.00 Total)

BMW's are really good motorcycles. My dad has one, and I rode with him for a long time. Ducati's are good too, his girlfriend had one.
BMW's are what I mostly know about. I tagged along to rallies and such.
Helmet + Protective riding gear = good stuff. |

I know in australia when u first get your license you are only allowed to ride 250cc..
they are currently looking at changing that law to 125cc :rolleyes:
If you're new to riding - do NOT get a big bike! Until you've ridden one, you have no idea how quick they are, and the torque by itself will no doubt get an inexperienced rider into problems (lifting front wheel, going way too quick into corners etc).
