Is Trance Going Down?

I keep on hearing about this media backlash that trance is supposed to be getting but has it happened already? Trance is rarely played on the radio or talked about by the media and with the invasion of hard house (well in the uk at least) However the rave scene/Trance music is also supposed to be the fastest growing youth culture of all time, dj's are now supposed to be the new 'rockstars' and there's more trance in the charts than hard house which is supposed to be the new bigger thing than trance now in the uk. What the hell is going on?! somebody tell me before i go insane!

huh?! Is this how u like Trance? On radio and in media? how is it supposed to be underground then? u should be glad its not bein played much on radio. well at least that's my opinion. i said b4 that house/trance is underground.. its better if it stays like that. idiots like Dave Pearce abusing the music and making it go mainstream.. this is just killing the music. Remember that if it is kept underground, it will never die. goin mainstream, (thank you Dave Pearce) its gonna die sooner or later.

u mean there's more cheez in the charts. Venga Boys is not Trance. too bad songs like PvD's we are alive made it to the charts, but at least its the vocal cheezy one that did.. but it doesnt matter coz it reflects on PvD's name. That's why I always prefer radio and media to stay away from House/Trance.

why listen to the radio when u got ur own music at home. CD's and tapes in a car.. and a mp3player/Discman/walkman wherever else u go.

later..

I didn't mean i wanted it to go totally commercial cuz i don't. if that happened then there definately would be a backlash. plus i wouldnt want it to be just played out and distributed to the masses to abuse it. plus its kinda cool having to search and find out different vinyl records. but sometimes its nice for the media to give it a little more recognition, which is why i love it when a trance/dance song (not cheese!) enters the charts or listening to dance anthems every sunday. I hardly think dave pierces show makes it totally commercial though! I don't undersatnd what you said about if it stays underground it'll never go out. Doesn't that mean its more likely to go out? but i do understand about how if it becomes too commercial it will die out when the commercial audience gets fed up of it...

wot i meant about bein underground is that the scene has been mostly underground for quite a while and DJs like Digweed who play to special crowds in Heaven on a Thursday nite and Sasha's Fabric gigz as well.. all this has been goin for a while.. and if it has been goin on for the last 6 years.. there's nothing stopping it from carrying on.

but once it goes commercial, there comes a time when audiences get fed up of it and move on.. leavin it behind like a bitch :D

i want trance to die in the public scene

as long less and less ppl listen to trance (among those who only listens to the charts) the genre will become more and more underground as it once was!

i wouldnt mind f this happened
then we wouldnt have to worry about trance becoming commercial\too cheezy etc etc

u can compare it with techno
less and less ppl listen to techno, so it becomes more and more undergournd , and then the tunes are getting better and better all the time ;D

screw the media..
they dont know !

trance will never get out of our lives(I've got the feeling I said this already:))and I have to agree with Petrus, trance is popular right now,but this will temper after a while
about less people lisetning to techno,I don't agree just take a look at the loveparade it keeps growing, and more and more events like this are happening all around Europe

For me, there are 2 ways of listening to music: the commercial way and 'the other' (the real way). Those who listen all time to the radio (and like it) are the ones who listen in the commercial way. "Oh what a nice tune! Aaah there's some sweet female voice that says: I love u, or don't leave me ever again..." are most of their reactions. And for a month the radios turn the same song again and again. Result: everybody's fed up with it and wants something new. And the single they bought dies under the dust. If trance would become commercial, the same would happen.
So, for me, there's only one thing important: the only ones who may be allowed to listen to trance (and other genres that are supposed to be underground) are those who understand the real power of trance, and so, listening to it in 'the other way' as I called it in the beginning of this review. It's the same like gothic, industrial, electro, "real" techno from Dave Clarke, Jeff Mills... (not the on the radios). Ok, about techno, there's no much "power" about techno, but it's just perfect for party's like I love techno here in Gent. All those genres are and has to stay underground and let the frivolous people be away from them and let them continue listening to 'Liquid' (our Belgian commercial ).
