Well on the news one women was interviewed and asked what went trough her mind when power failed and she said: September 11..
Please people dont become stupid, it's just a HUGE HYDRO OUTAGE!!!!
And I'd put the *roll eyes* smiley right here but they dont seem to work... :-S
and BTW I heard fire was the cause too, and that the power stations are all related to Niagara and the one in up north NYC so this is why the area affected is so wide, it caused a Domino effect..
Gladly it didnt happen during a cold winter day, thats wouldve been much worse! |

| Just seen on bbc news 24 (UK news channel) that aperently a fire in a Candian power staion caused all of this. I would have thought that there was more redundancy in the power grid so if one station went down the others could up their power production to compensate, obviously thats not the case. |

That is the case normally here in the states.
I saw a show on the Discovery Channel a few months ago about the last major blackout in that region (NYC/Niagra/Toronto). The show explained that when the load was redistributed, the next generator in the line was forced to shut itself down to protect itself from damage due to the overloading... this, in turn, made the other generating stations take up more of the load...causing them to shut themselves down and so on down the line until the entire grid just shut itself off.
