I think the rap you speak of for Buzz was pretty much limited to Fox, and the military. The DC govt. never had a problem with them. The real problem came from the Military, when their soldiers kept coming home from Nation ed up. DC Govt. wanted nothing to do with the situation but the Military put a hell of a lot of pressure on DC to force a closure. Which is why you probably won't see Buzz@Nation. Nation is really close to the Military Base, which means that the problems could start all over again.
Buzz also isn't as bad as people in the media made it out to be. Fox tried and did sensationalize the "Rave Scene". (using Buzz as the scapegoat) But as anyone knows, the recent Buzz events at 2k9 ran very smoothly, showing that it can likely return without having all the hitting the fan.
Sorry but Buzz was the best EDM party in DC. GLow is crapola, Five is 21 and over, which is ok but closes off a significant portion of the club population, and there is NOTHING else. The return of Buzz is neccesary, and possibly the only outlet many of us will have to party the "right" way. :) |

coverage was not limited to fox. the washington post did several lengthy articles on buzz and nation. the military banned its personnel from nation, which is always terrible publicity.
it doesn't matter if buzz is as bad as the media made it -- it's public perception now. how many people do you think will actually go to a buzz party to see if the media reported accurately? i assure you that negative media coverage detailing the hoopla of the past will flood the area with the return of buzz.
the point is, the name buzz is ruined. it doesn't matter what it actually was. the will hit the fan and buzz will be kill by the media and general public within a year of its return. it sucks, i'm going to HATE to see it happen and i wish it wouldn't, but that's the way journalism works. |

Primacy Events, the company that owns Nation, wants to, get this, shut down Nation to any and all clubnights, and turn it into a permanent concert venue...for country-western music, because it is a "safe" investment...all they are concerned about is making lots of $$$ without having to worry about bad publicity due to drugs or whatever
that would be a horrible ing shame...Nation is such a spectacular club venue
ps: it annoys me to no end when you idiots spell Nation with an "S" on the end of it!!! IT IS NATION NOT NATIONSSSSSSSSSSSSSS FFS!!!! :whip: |

Fox was the one that broke the story, yes other news publications discussed it, but that is irrelevant and to be expected. I think you are being melodramatic by saying the name is ruined. It is an EDM event like any other and therefore will be the target of suspicion unless it becomes REALLY mainstream like Glow. :rolleyes:
I don't think Buzz will really get a bad rap again. They know the stakes and you can bet your ass they will take appropriate steps to prevent the same nonsense from occurring again. Can it get shutdown, sure of course it can, but I doubt Buzz will have the same problems it did before. :D |

I won't go into details about all of the US Military personnel that I met at Buzz who were "candyflipping." I barely even drink anymore yet I'm all about going to clubs and having as good time.
Common sense alone should tell you that you really don't need to do drugs to have a good time, no matter where you are. So now because of the US military, who can't control it's own troops homeland activities, we have to suffer?
Is this right? Anyone that can rationally think for themselves would suggest otherwise, but I guess that noone really knows how to think for themselves anymore.
Maybe THAT should be our real concern, that we all could be the proverbial herd of sheep being blindly led to the slaughter. |

you cant really blame the military and the news media for busting up buzz like that. A lot of ppl that went to Buzz were still REALLY shady (including non military types), and you cant deny a lot of the things that went down inside.

coverage by other publications isn't irrelevant, it's a good indicator of how widely disseminated a story is. if media do multiple stories of a span of time, it means a story is STILL interesting to the public, which in turn indicates where public opinion stands. btw, i'm talking about the name being ruined to the D.C. area, not to the EDM community.
i'm not sure how much experience you have in journalism and PR, but that's what i study and it's what i do. a cardinal rule of PR is that you don't associate yourself with tainted perceptions and tarnished images. one reason why many charities will not accept donations, regardless of how generous, from tobacco companies and others who are considered "unsavory" in the public mind.
this is why buzz will get a bad rap before it even gets a second chance -- journalists will seize upon the hot-button topic of kids and ecstasy. hell, if i worked at a newpaper in the area i could get a lot of credit for a story idea to my editor that would look exactly like this:
The Buzz party at the club "Nation" in SE that was shut down last year after military personnel were banned because of the prevalence of drug culture is back. The party is now on every Saturday night at This Club. Call the club's management and find out more details, including if they think they can control drug use this time around and what measures they plan to take to ensure illegal drugs, such as Ecstasy, are not brought into the club. Has the club had drug problems before? Where is it located? Call the military base and find out if personnel will still be banned from Buzz parties.
my point is, buzz is condemned in the court of public opinion and journalists will seize upon the negative issues of the past and revamp the story by rehashing the past by asking, "will it happen again?" |

Well, given all of the time that has passed - I would have to say that at least they never found it necessary to change the name of their promotional entity/agency to "Cubik-life" :D
