ughhhh that was the worst experience of my life. i was up in chatham, ontario playing hockey. i got off the ice and the power went out. i drove all the way back to windsor on the 401 and the traffic sucked in windsor. sooooooo i get to the bridge, and boy did that ing suck. it took me over an hour to get across. so i get home at 7 30 after leaving my house at 12 in the afternoon...and of course the power is out here (near detroit). so i sleep...so hot and humid, and wake up to it pouring rain, being humid and hot, and no power. finally, 25 hours later, the power came on. thank you god.

i think it's homer simpson's fault "DOH!"

see how we're all used to electricity and take it for granted? so i guess the machines DO control our lives after all, even though indirectly for now.

Don't know about any of y'all but New York was one big party - at least for those of us that didn't try to leave. Free drinks, lots of people, a good time was had by all. No music tho...

I got a pedicap from Tribeca to Midtown... it was a blast

I was outside a cafe with some friends when the power went out, and didn't even know for a good hour (since it was in the middle of the day), until we finally went into the cafe to buy water. The lady at the counter was frantic yelling "they are supposed to tell me when they shut off the power, my ice cream is going to melt!" We all thought it was the construction going on down the street until some guy came into the cafe, and said that it was all over Toronto too. Then we were a little panicked.

Well anyways, we went outside to catch a bus to go home, and then this ambulance comes flying down the street, and some guy walks in front of it really slowly. I screamed from down the road "DUDE!! RUN!!!" He was so close to getting hit, I was thinking I was gonna see someone die.

Then we stood waiting for the bus, talking about what we thought happened, and feeling bad for people in elevators, and hoping the hospitals were in ok condition. Then we got in the bus, and as we went down the street, we noticed all the traffic lights were out, and realized that it being all over wasn't a rumour. Then I saw three 12 year old kids directing traffic on one of the busiest intersections. It was awesome. And the traffic was actually listening to them. I was really proud of Canadians when I saw that!

So I get home, and go to call my BF's mother to make sure she is OK, and I realize all my phones are cordless, so I had no phone access. I asked the next door neighbours to use their phone, and called my BF's mom, and she was ok, but they worried about me cause they couldn't get a hold of me. So I went over to my BF's place to stay the night, and watched the stars and saw 2 meteors, and saw Mars. It was actually a pretty nice night. Then around 2 AM we went to the part of the city that had the power back, but drove through the darkened downtown to see what it looked like. It was sooo cool! It was really strange cause it is ALWAYS lit up.

Anyways, the part of the city that had its power back was SOOOO congested with people. It was like, everyone in the whole damn city decided to go there just to be near electricity. LOL!

I am religious, so to me, I thought that the power going out was God's way of saying "stop being so damn concerned with your TV for a minute, and look outside and see what's around you." I mean, what are the odds that the meteor shower and the viewing of mars were both visible on the night of the Blackout? And the sky was so clear, even from your very own backyard because there wasn't any light polution. I loved it!

It wasn't too bad, my power was out off and on for a few days. It seems weird walking around at night with no lights on. Got to take a look at downtown Hamilton from the edge of the escarpment to see half of it had power, and there were 3 fires. I also saw a shooting star, mars, and also the moon rising.

It's amazing how dependant we are on electricity. I can remember when the power first went down, I tried watching TV, turning on the bathroom light, and trying to use a ceiling fan before I finally got used to it. I'm just lucky I had some batteries for my CD player, kept me entertained for a while. :)
