So what did you do and how did you get home?

Well....I was at work in downtown Toronto and waited probably until 7pm or so until I decided to go to the downtown Toronto bus station.

Since the subway wasn't running I was hopeing there was going to be a bus that I could hop to get to the Yorkdale mall where my car was parked.

No buses going there.

GO transit shut there doors.

Lovely.

So I had to take a cab...$40 and an excellant drive by some of the nices houses I've seen.

Civilian people helping direct traffic.
An entrepreneurial corner store that brought their ice cream freezer outside selling ice cream for a buck. (of course I got one).
Some idiots of course that don't understand that when a traffic light is not working; it's a 4 WAY STOP!!!!

Other than that and being a little short for the taxi fare (I convinced that cabbie that my $20 HMV gift certificate with my $20 bill is $40, woo! :clown:) I got to my car and the drive to Barrie was a breeze.

But all my land marks are gone. Vanished. Like they were never there and nature swollowed them back up.

It was spooky but at the same time, beautiful.

I'm just glad I didn't have to sleep on the street... :p

I was scrambling to finish some things before leaving work at Don Mills and Eglinton when it went out. Normally I'd be quite happy to not be able to work but this time I needed to get stuff done.

Left work after the generator quit 10 mins later, leaving us all in total blackness.

Saw that at Don Mills and Eglinton, there was no one directing traffic. What a nightmare. Pedestrians were the only ones who could stop the traffic - they were just walking out in to the street to cross. Finally some guy stepped in and restored some order.

Took the Eglinton bus towards Yonge which wasn't much slower than the normal rush hour ride home. Got off at Mt. Pleasant because I knew Yonge would be a nightmare. Walked home to Davisville from there and tried to find stairs to get up to my apartment.

What pissed me off the most was that not one of my bosses called me on Friday to tell me not to come in. So I went all the way to work and back for all.

What scares me about this event, although it was not a terrorist act, was it showed how vulnerable we are to terrorists. As the power went out across 5 or 6 major cities, people streamed out in to the street, traffic came to a standstill, and thousands of people were trapped in subway tunnels. If that's not the perfect opportunity for bombs to be dropped, biological weapons to be used to spread disease, etc etc, I don't know what is. Terrorists, take note....

I can't even imagine the panic in NYC when this happened!

well i was in DonMills station going down the escelator to take the subway when the power went out.
After calling work to ask them if i still should come down, they asked me to come down so i had to take the Don Mills bus with more than 50 other ppl to Pape. From Pape, it was another hour and a half to Bloor/Yonge. By the time i got to work, the building was closed and a sign saying call tomorrow for details or something.. so i was really really pissed :whip:

So i walked north on Yonge figuring i would get home b4 midnite.. luckly i was passing by my dad's work. To my luck dad wasn't working that day but i asked one of the ppl that worked thereto drive me home so it was cool.

lol.. funny story actually..

I work at wonderland, so when the power went off all the rides got stuck! The bigger - potentially lethal rides - all have failsafes for this kind of problem, however The Rage (the small boat that swings) needs power to stop and it was in mid-cycle...

I saw it swinging for like 10 minutes, and I heard the kids were puking over the side of the boat... lol
