I'm looking for a Laptop and I've looked thrue everything in my search for a cheap but perfect notebook. I've checked the DELL website, and the $140 Shipping&Handling fee is a killer. If anybody has any hockups or knows a place, or has a suggestion, plz post here!

I want a Pentium M, 1.4-1.5 GHz, 256-512RAM, light&thin, 30gig harddrive. And the most important, PRICE! $2 000 max. Taxes and shipping is killing me at Dell website. Futureship is not such a bad idea. Anybody has any ideas? Thanks.

i'm in the market for a notebook myself.. Toshiba A10-5WM... P4m 2.0 GHz, 512DDR ram, wireless LAN 802.11b (which is the current standard) and ur typical dvd/cd-rw burner... also 2 typeII slots... only downfall is the videocard.. it's decent enought though.

price is 1779.99 at BestBuy,1899.99 @ Futureshop and Sugessted retail Price is actualt 1899.99 on Tosbiba.ca

i'm getting this one... unless i notice something better.

ps: don't buy from corner computer stores or chineese places... best thing is a retail store.. yes expensive but reliable.

I suggest not to get a dell laptop, because i just did, it took them 3 days to send me a confirmation through email and said that, it will be delivered to me by sept 1st only because its in pre production, its near to impossible to get in touch with customer service with more than 30 mins of wait time, just to find out it will be delivered so late, the sales rep on the phone had told me 5 buisness days.

Normally the computer is delivered in 5-7 buisness days..

The sales rep on the telephone had no idea about the computer nor the financing plans also

I eneded up charging my card for 2800$

I suggest go for a Sony Laptop or HP/Compaq. The musch easier way is just to walk into Futureshop or Best Buy and pick it up.

Originally, I was opting for a laptop. Now, I have a desktop AND a PDA in hand.. for about 2300-2400 CDN.. including tax.

my desktop is now a p4 2.8C (800mhz FSB, not celeron for those of u who know computers). I'm running at radeon 9600 pro, 512 ram with all the necessities for a computer except for a monitor.. i have a spare one..

my PDA is going to be a toshiba e750 .. err check it out at toshiba.com

The reason i chose this combo instead of a laptop was because the laptop was going to cost the same anyway. It gives you power and mobility at the same time. If u get a 2ghz laptop right now.. in 3 years ur computer's not going to run anything.. and if u walk around with anything heavier than 5 pounds, it's going to get annoying.

i had my eye on that one cuz of 3 reasons: a) it has wireless LAN 802.11b... b) it got Windows Pocket PC 2003 and c) chat on msn with that tinny thing sounds really cool.

but then again, a notebook is a mobile computer all together... so not only msn, pocket word and pocket excel are coming with me: we're talking an entire computer. Yes, mobility is the key. If u can walk with ur school bag, u can walk with a laptop in ur hand as well.

Hmmm... I'm looking at getting a new PC, but I'm not sure if I should go for a desktop or a laptop. Currently, the laptop appeals more to me, but I wanna find out if it's really suitable for the applications for which I'll be needing it.

What are some major, important things to look for when buying a laptop?

Weight.. power saving features... warranty/support... necessity.. do you need those features? and most importantly.. How long do I need this laptop for? obviously the more expensive the longer it will be able to run up to date programs.. so it's price versus life of laptop.

I'm also interested in buying a notebook. The C$1800 - $2200 Toshibas and Compaqs look attractively priced, I want 512K ram, 40+ HD, wireless networking. Currently you can get 802.11b wireless, but soon 802.11g will be commonly available on notebooks, and g is faster. I also want the Intel Centrino technology, it extends the battery run time of a notebook. I'm probably going to wait a few months because I think 802.11g and Centrino will be lower-cost and widely available soon - currently those features are considered leading-edge and therefore high-priced. I really want wireless because then I can use the computer for internet stuff anywhere in the house, rather than being glued to the computer desk all the time.

PS I have a Dell 8250 tower desktop, it's very fast and reliable. But the Dell notebook prices are not much different from buying other-brand notebooks from a store. You should watch the Dell.ca or .com website for a few weeks to get an idea of the deals, which expire on the .ca site every Friday at 2pm Eastern. Dell deals will repeat on about a 3 week cycle. Quite often you can get free shipping, or extra RAM or hard drive size for no extra cost. Also on the Dell site check the small business customer sections because they have extra notebook models that are not shown on the home-user section. :toocool:
