ive just been reading that a few accounts on optus broadband have been suspeneded due to the use of kazaa, now there is some confusion about this people saying optus cant monitor your downloads but apparently the RIAA is logging kazaa and notifying ISP's or somehting along those lines which most likey happened in the guys case:
| quote: | I hope every1 realizes that what you Download on kazaa is not private.
My account was suspended today because 1 of my PCs that was Internet sharing on my cable was using kazaa and apparently downloaded a copyrighted movie and/or song.
I only found out when I rang to re-enable my account.
I am not the only person this has happened to by the way.
The time of Kazaa/lite is now over. |
and this
| quote: | Wow, now this is a first that I have ever heard about.
Well 2 days ago my modem started doing wierd things, the ONLINE started flashing and then after a couple of minutes the whole modem would shut itself down adn restart over and over.
I then rang Optus cable support today to be advised that my acct has been suspended due to sharing of Copyright files, through a peer 2 peer prog, such as Imesh, or Kazaa, WinMX etc ? Ok yes I use Kazaa. But this is the deal.
Yes they are saying its illegal to get files that are copyright, but the break of code conduct of usage is that you are not allowed to be sharing Copyrighted files so that others can get copies !!!
I advised the operator well how does one really know if the music or files they are d/loading are copyrighted..... he couldnt answer.
He reactivated my account, but only to say that you only get 1 chance with OPTUS and if caught again your acct will be cancelled !!!
wow JUST SAY THE WORD..... I will be looking for a new provider !!!
Who else has had this treatment from OPTUS ??? This is a new one for me that has been using peer 2 peer progs now for over 2 years and not once suspended !! |

Doesnt Kazaa or Optus have some kind of Privacy Act, where it is illegal to disclose your ISP, name or anything to other people. If so what they and the RIAA is doing is illegal and they should be the ones getting the plug pulled . . for good. Punishments for break of Privacy Acts are severely high, especially if it disables you from doing something you need to do or some . Lets hope some lawyers can over RIAA for that and/or Optus because once this wrd gets out to everyone about Optus, we may see them fold their internet services fairly fast.
Once again . . . YOU RIAA! GET WITH THE IN' TIMES! |
Err the times is obviously companies are losing millions and millions of dollars because of leeching hence why this measure is having to be taken, so hoping u dont take offence ure point of view is naive and childish. :) |

Now even though the issue has been raised countless times, it's about time someone finally had the balls to stand up and do something about it. Becuase now instead of ISP's pocketing all the revenue for copyright materials that users download, they'll hopefully go into the pockets of people that actually did some hard work.
Currently, ISP's are making revenue through providing a service that lets people distibute and trade music/drugs, whatever.
In theory, they're to blame for allowing it to occur(providing a channel, and making a profit off it), and now the legal sector is seeing a a case where liabiilty can be shifted from the user to the ISP
THE RESULT : NO MORE DOWNLOADs |
