i think thats a load of . this year has been an amazing year for trance, by far the best year since 1999, maybe even better. i could list 100 great songs of the year but thats pointless because you all know what im talking about. there is no way trance is dieing, it may be going underground, but as long as producers keep churning out quality tracks that they have been doin this year, i dont give a if trance goes comercial or underground.

Now we are moving away from the overblown to the grassroots and the up and coming DJs. People no longer want to listen to cheesy anthems that are nothing to do with clubbing."

..from the article...

now that's good news. This could provide an openning in the crowd's music likes and dislikes, and thus giving trance an open place in the market of clubland. Idon't know about the Uk so much, but I think Toronto is just getting "re-started".

Interesting read, though as someone already said I think it's more a function of economics than anything else...

Demand goes up, so prices go up concurrently. Eventually prices hit a point where nobody wants to pay them anymore, so big events/clubs/whatever that are banking on people paying the exorbitant prices are left out of pocket.

It's all part of a cycle - eventually the prices have to drop, so more people will start going again. More people going = more demand, thus prices go back up.

I have no fears for the future of trance

this has been my theory for the past year and i a bit, the main is that dj's who used to get payed loads, wont take a pay cut coz theyre stil las popular but the industry is slowly getting smaller until eventually no club can afford to pay their wages and the superstars leave and the clusb return to the lesser known dj's and new talent!

From the TA's perspective, the article is saying that the teenage candy ravers that are in the dance scene just for the drugs, dress ridiculously, believe they can "rave really, well, etc etc (not in for the music) are leaving dance for something else. This might put an end to the producers that are catering to their bad tastes.

My thoughts exactly. Now we will see who's trully in for the music and not the trend.

The dance scene was never big in Hawaii anyways, so this isn't really a problem for us here :p

and from the 2nd link,

Dance music may not be finished. Boy In Da Corner, the debut album by the east London garage act MC Dizzee Rascal, which was recently nominated for the Mercury music prize, is proof that the genre can still produce some startling and groundbreaking music.

LOL WTF? how has a london garage MC got anything 2 do with dance music?

the Guardian talk more than the daily sport so i wouldnt believe any of it :)

I bought the paper for the article during the week....

I thought the first article was alright, it made some sense in that I think people have woken up to the idea that you dont need to pay vast amounts of money to see a DJ when there are younger, cheaper, just as talented DJ's out there.

But the second article was bollocks.

And by the way, just becuase people dont go to superclubs anymore, that doesnt mean a whole genre of music is dead at all!

As soon as I realized that article was about the UK scene I immediately lost interest. The UK is a bad example of dance culture. That makes the whole article skewed.

If you wanna get a glimpse of true dance culture, look at Germany. They really have a TRUE dance culture there.
