Best Recording Programme?

| So Ive got my decks hooked upto my comp via the line in!!! Wots the best programme to get good quality recordings??? ATM Im using waveedit which can only convert to 80kbps maximum :( I want something simple |

I also use Total Recorder and like it a lot. Very easy interface, and if you try it any have any questions, post here for some quick answers :) I've never had any problems with it, and I've recorded hours and hours of mixing! OK, so it's not free, but it is very cheap :) |

| soundforge is probably the best program for recording and editing sounds, cool edit it also pretty good. The problem is that while you can easily get a pirate version off the net for free, these sorts programs retail for anywhere between $500 to $1500, so youre stiffing the producers out of a fair amount of money. If you got no problem with that tho, i guess you got no problem |

Last time I tried recording with it, every recording I made went funny after the hour mark (drop-outs, pauses etc.) Admittedly this was back in the days of version 4.5 (I think) but I haven't had the need to try recording hours of audio with it when Total Recorder does such a great job.
Apart from that I love Sound Forge. |

Any soundcard that has a line-in should be fine. Obviously they range in quality a bit, but I won't get into that.
The cable you need depends on the connections your mixer and soundcard have. Typically the mixer will have a stereo pair of phono outputs. Lower spec soundcards will probably have a stereo 3.5mm line-in. Higher spec soundcards may have phono connections, or 1/4" jack connections. |
