Man, I just Got Cubase SX 1.0 like 3 weeks ago. Now I gotta go out and buy a new version.
I hope there's some sort of a discount for 1.0 owners. |

Updates aren't essential. They're luxaries. You can make music just as effectively with any version of Cubase. The update isn't going to make the song for you. |

yeah I know. I'm fine with what I've got.
Anyways, It's not like I was gonna buy it right away either. I still gotta learn about all the things I can do in version 1.0. |

Yeah, but be aware it's only a half freeze function. It only works on vsti's. For a lot of people that is ok, but for people that want freeze on effects (heavy reverbs or so) it doesn't work.
But what I'm most afraid is the stability. They rushed Nuendo 2 to be available begin summer and it suffered (and still does) from stability problems. SX 2.0 is based on the N2 engine, and seeing that it get's released 4 september worries me. It means that there has not been much betatesting. I'm worried the first releases of SX 2.0 will just be glorified beta tests. |

just export the reverbs to wav files then insert them again. no biggie. |

Yeah I know it's easy to find other methods of alleviating the cpu usage! To be honest I never felt the need to do something like that yet (cuz I choose carefully what I run, never had CPU overload yet). You can easily say the same for your VSTi's, just export them and reinsert them as a wave. Same method, same result.
But that defeats the purpose of the Freeze function. That function is just intended to have a "temporary" export, so cpu isn't used most of the time, but you can apply changes without having to reinsert the effect.
It's nice to see they finally implemented the freeze function, but also not nice to see they implemented a half one, while the competition is already ahead.
The only thing I see though with all those features, is that people will again be tempted to stuff more in their compositions. It has already happened with softsynths you know. Hmm I miss something there, let me add another synth here. And again and again. While the solution could easily be you have to spend more time on what you have already.
Most tunes I hear from people nowadays are just too overcrowded. |

I think the "half freeze" has some advantages over a full one, although a full freeze function would still be the best. When I mix I mess around a lot with effects, so the possibility to do that while the Vsti is frozen is a good thing. I have to admit that freezing the instrument with effects and audio as well, would be a great thing to have towards the end of a song. Export to .wav is still there though, so it's really only a luxury this new thing:)
