How come? (pg. 2)

in portugal, there is a huge psy/goa community. those wankers use to say their trance is the only 'real' trance and have no respect what-so-ever for uplifting trance. so i got too pissed off with these idiots, making me hate psy even more (i heard some tunes at that time, and wasn't too pleased with them)

lately, by hearing john '00' fleming's sets, i started getting into a bit of it. i still don't like the 'pure' psy tunes, mainly because they have too many weird sounds and general weirdness of the tracks that i don't like, but psy-influenced tunes moderately are SO good :D love that style. also love progressive influenced by psy. some recomendations from these styles:

Ron Land - Space Lab
Choci vs. Dirtsnob - Future Is (AR52 Remix)
M.I.K.E. vs. John '00' Fleming - Ice Cream (John '00' Fleming Remix)
James Hardcourt - Diaspora
Buds not Bombs ft. Irina - Deleido (Infusion Vocal Exorcism Remix)

just love this tunes. the dark atmosphere with a few psy influences makes it so much better than regular happy, half-cheesy uplifting.

so, anyone out there, you must check john '00' fleming's sets for a balance between the '2 sides' of trance. all quality :)

I'm into psy stuff. Not hardcore like, and in fact I don't really know much about the music or the scene, but I listen to what I can find and I like most of it. Generally I prefer full-on melodic productions as opposed to the more minimal stuff that's seen greater exposure recently. I can see where people are coming from when they call psy the "true" trance because, while standard uplifting trance is my usual weapon of choice, there's something to be said for throwing a pair of cups on and losing yourself in a nice, swirling psytrancer. A few times I've been listening to a song or two and I'll sit there for a couple minutes after it's over before realizing "hmm... music stopped... bad". Puts me in a proper trance, you might say. ;)

Here is your answer: the music is good but I sure don't want those bloody elitist hippies around here. Although I like psy more than prog, I'd rather have prog-heads here instead of those jaded psy-heads with their mushrooms, aliens and Indian motifs who think there's no other form of music in this world. At least, that's what the Brazilian psy-trance scene is all about (the same for Portugal).

Full-on psy-trance is nice though.

I wouldn't have classed the ones in your list as goa, but yes John 00 does throw in the odd few tracks in his sets

look more along the lines of Astral Projection and Astrix tunes ;)

I "sample" goa/psy on www.di.fm and I get them on the hub. You can find a HUGE collection of goa/psy on www.mp3.com . I got most of my Astral Projection and Infected Mushroom tracks that way :tongue2

Occassionally, there are goa/psy sets on www.djmixes2k.net , but since not that many people listen to them, there usually aren't cuesheets :(

mto
