my computer crashed~~~!!!!! i need to reboot the whole system..
everytime i turn it on it keeps saying that the system folder is missing or corrupt.
man all i did was shut the compter down cuz it was going so slow then when i turned it back on that in laptop wont turn on! piece of ! so now i lost everything. ihave to reboot the whole system. and the prob is i lost my recovery cd. so im gona have to borrow my sister's rec. cd, i hopeit will work ..!!!

The moral of this story is you NEVER EVER EVER keep your personal files on the same hard drive, or the same partition as your system files.

okclyde, after you put the recovery disk in look at the options in the menu. there could be a "non-destructive" recovery option, or something like that. choose that one. it leaves your files alone pretty much. you might have to reinstall a few things but that's it.

| i know that most IBM (if not all) laptops and several other brands have a partition which contains the recovery progam, you should simply see a screen like 'hit F8 to enter the recovery program'. if not, well then i guess you need the CD! |
