well since this guy is as he claims, a newbie to production

i shall give checklist

1. cpu, u need lots of this, if u want to knock out the phattest sounds...

2. imagination, without this, theres not much point in producing, unless u want to do a dj sammy or scooter, who just take old classics and plonk them into the chart

3. a sequencer, fruityloops, reason etc, this is where u plonk all ur samples n crap to make a so called track

4. vsti synths, u dont need these, ive heard some trax that just rely on wav samples, remember those old mod, atari days? vsti synths give out the best sounds imo

5. speakers, to hear ur music :)

6. midi or notes to play with, import a midi into fruityloops and play around with

7. time, u need lots of this, since making music isnt a pick up and play kinda thing, it takes much time to make things perfect or good sounding

thats all i can think of atm :)

we shall see how i do;)

My advice....if your serious about getting into production fork out $300 for propellerhead reason. Its been said that there is a tutorial cd that really helps but I haven't tried it. Spend time learning how each synth/effect works since experimenting is the best way of learning. They have a demo on their website.
