Improving your eyesight

I thought this was cool enough to share. I'm moderately myopic (-2.00 or so), but have recently reversed the trend of it degrading. For two years I've improved it, and this time around it was better by .5 diopters (!) of both myopia and astigmatism, in both eyes.

The technique is pretty simple. Try reading something with small print (no squinting!) at a distance that's slightly difficult but not impossible to read. Your eyes will adjust to it within minutes or even seconds. Then, move it out a few inches. Lather, rinse, repeat. Works especially well with books, since you can practice and read at the same time.

Amazing how easily one's eyes adjust to his surroundings (actually explaining why most myopes need progressively stronger prescriptions). Even more amazing how few people know or think about this, and how some will tell you it can't be done:stongue:

Hmmmm...I wonder if this is the whole jist of the "See Clearly Method" the bastards on the radio keep telling me to call about.

I was really tempted to actually go call, but I've read some reviews on USENET and it was less than impressive.

I guess it could be true, I think I lost sight from seeing things from afar because I rarelly use it (I have .75) most of the time I'm in front of the monitor....

Haven't tried it.
Never heard of anyone doing it.
Wont work.

Haha, jk :p

Might give it a go. My right eye's slightly weaker than my left. I dont need glasses but i'm a bit of a perfectionist, so just knowing that my eyes aren't quite right bugs the hell outta me!!

Yeah... the "See Clearly Method" is a bit crankish, based on the "Bates method." It's got you doing all this weird ish. Certainly wouldn't waste my money there.

My optometrist says she's done the same thing, albeit even less formally, by simply wearing her contacts less. She went from a -8 to a -6 in a few years, but cautions that getting to 20/20 is probably impossible. I love it when people throw around the "i" word without basis:)
