| Please, DON'T SCOLD/FLAME (sp?) me for asking this on here. I know this is an OS that's not [normally] geared towards consumers. I knew it when I first heard of the different version titles. What I like to know is what exactly are the differences between each version of Windows 2003. I believe there are 3 different versions, "Standard", "Enterprise Server", and "Datacenter". If I'm wrong, please correct me. Something else I would like to know is: Has anyone on here tried to use this OS as a consumer OS? If so, was it any better than Windows XP Professional? Are all softwares that work with XP working with 2003 properly? Has there been any problems in 2003 related to software that used to work in XP? If so, what were they? If one (anyone) were to install a version of Windows 2003 on there system, what should they expect that's different from 2000 Professional? XP Professional? Are the system requirements for 2003 lower than XP? 2000? Thanks for all answers/help. It is greatly appreciated. |

There are (at least) 4 versions, Standard Edition, Enterprise Edition, Datacenter Edition and Web Edition, check the list at the bottom of this page for the differences |

Thanks. There's 5 soon. Small Business Server's coming out. MS just wants to make money. They can just create one version for everybody. |

XP can! LOL But anyway, I never used Linux before and I know that Win98's CRAP because of its poor memory management and the fact that it runs over DOS. There's probably MANY more reasons. Maybe Win XP Pro & Linux is the best way to go? How long would it take to learn how to "get around" Linux? I know people who use Linux (SUSE 8, I think) and they love it but, it doesn't have as much apps as Windows has. Many apps that are on Windows are never ported over to Linux (Adobe anyone?). I have a question not really related to Win2003 but, related to languages:
1. In Linux, can you switch the user interface language (NOT just the way numbers, money, dates, times, and measurement units look) to another language completely?
2. Where can I acquire the Multilingual User Interface Pack for Windows XP, 2000, and 2003? I need to be able to switch UI languages on the fly and without having it, I would need a copy of the whoel Windows OS in each language and I would need to multiboot when I want to change. Programs would need to be installed seperately, sometimes more than once, for each language version of Windows. It's a major hassle without the MUI pack. MS doesn't sell it one-by-one. They sell it in bulk to companies. I only need one copy of it for each OS (2000 Pro, XP Pro, 2003, Enterprise Server).
Any help would greatly be appreciated. |

It came out when you weren't lookin'.......:D
On a serious note, I'd say 2k3 happens to be THE fastest Windows OS I've ever chanced upon. Not to mention the backward compatability it offers with such a HUGE list of apps. Hell, I even run Splinter Cell, Max Payne, ALL of the Need-for-Speeds, ALL the Quakes, the Unreals...........even Half-Life which just REFUSES to run on Win XP.
My point is, It's simply the MOST rewarding and the best performing Windows ever...and it has the Win XP 'theming' which you can disable if you detest it.
p.s. I'm running Win2k3 Enterprise |
