I am really interested in what other TA's think on this topic. I would say that those five years did the most to shape trance before it "metamorphosized" around 1998-ish.

I'll start.
Orbital.
predictor
jam & spoon
Teknoscaper.
Underworld
Oliver Lieb
Future Sound Of London
Slapskin
ummm sven vath, ac boutsen, Ralf Hildenbeutel, everyone from the eye q label, harthouse
Dj_Psygnosis

Matt Darey
Teknoscaper.

LOL!!!!!

I agree with the rest here but not fully with Psygnosis.. IMO Matt's influence wasn't that big in the first half of the decade, early 90s but it was bigger in the latter half.

My 5 exact selections might be:

Orbital (= Paul & Phil Hartnoll)
Sven Väth
Cygnus X (= Matthias "AC Boutsen/Brainchild" Hoffmann & Ralf Hildenbeutel)
Oliver Lieb
The KLF aka Kopyright Liberation Front (= William "Bill Drummond" Butterworth & Jimmy Cauty)

i didnt know alot about trance bak then but i would say matt darey was the best, i listend to his old mixes for the first time in like 1999. i didnt know who he was before, beacuse i used to be one of those rap fans.
Proximus
Paul Oakenfold
Zayatz
Sven Väth
Dave Clarke ;)

If we talking about 1990-1995

How can you forget Leftfield because they released Leftism in 1995 to critical acclaim!. They were probably one of the leaders of the movement of progressive house.

Paul Oakenfold
Oliver Lieb (actually most of the stuff coming out of frankfurt at that time was mostly him and an alias or people trying to be like him)
Sven Vath (back when he played trance.....harthouse and eye-Q classics)
Robert Miles - His 1995 Release of Dreamland really set the tone for trance and ambient productions. It influenced a lot of producers and artists and showed them that you can achieve it.
Dave Clarke should be on this list (yes you asked about trance) but his red 1, red2 and red 3 releases were just amazing
Tony De Vit (he got very big in late 1994 and in 1995, he started to motivate others)

Now I would not place paul van dyk in the list because he did not really take off till 1997 imo. Yes he did visions of shiva and 45 rpm but I think Paul's best works was from his seven ways album and on.
