Atmosphere is a "ROMpler" meaning all its sounds are pre-recorded, rather than being synthesised in real time. Sure it has envelopes, a filter, LFOs etc. but the bottom line is all the sounds are recorded.
The Spectrasonics web site has a full list of the gear used to make the sounds, and much of the list is hardware. So, ahem, the sounds are "hardware quality" ;)

And, just in case you wanted some opinion, I absolutely love it. If you're after pads, and have the necessary 3.5Gb free on your harddisk, I would highly recommend it. But, it's not just a one-trick pony either, as it's got loads of ambient sounds, and also basses, leads and more :D |
