nah, yall have it all wrong... the best method to mix is quite simple:
Just play a cd, and whenever the track number changes, thats when u exchange one of the records. Hell, then u wont need a fancy auto-mixer... much less 2 turntables... damn, this could start a whole DJ revolution... ;) |

I do really feel elated when i mix.. its just sometimes my beats mess up at gigs i dont really like it better than if they are matching.. :(
But i guess you are right though.. maybe i should follow some of these techniques to perfect my beats.. :D |

| U can get mp3 mixers that have pitch sliders and jog wheels. |

ive had my decks a couple of weeks now and im finding it hard to match the beats. i can get them matched for a couple of beats then thay go out. it seems that i have to mix the 2 tracks quite fast as there are changes in the beats after what seem a coule of beats.
do i just need to practice with the pitch and touch the record to slow down or speed up till theay are inline.

I remember that day very clearly! I was at my friends house, and she had a party the night before. I woke up and started spinning at like 12 noon. The next thing I knew, I was beatmatching, and "understanding" what was going on. The next time I looked at my watch it was 9 pm....I had played every single one of my records, both sides, and all of my friends records that he had left there from the night before.
It is such a good feeling.

It took me much longer than a couple of weeks to feel confortable beatmatching - it was more like months. If you loose your match after a couple of beats, first find out if the record is going too slow or fast by keeping the records matched by touch, and perfect the pitch. Time and practice go hand in hand. At times you get really frustrated, but it pays off in the end.
I've also found that once you learn to mix, it almost turns into a double-edged sword. A good thing is that your able to appreciate and respect a good dj alot more. However, if the dj is less than par, I'm unable to find pleasure listening, and instead pick apart the mixes. Sometimes ignorance is bliss. =/ |

yeah i started at the beginning of the summer
and making countless tapes, trying for perfection, well im NOT perfect now (seldom i am on tape)
but damn beatmatching is a breeze once you get the hang of it.
you go from spending all 7 minutes of the record trying to match it, to matching it w/i 1 minute or so..
:)
everyone will get there w/ time and practice :p |

I had the exact same problem. When I got into mixing, I found myself in my favorite club, listening to the DJ and thinking "why does HE get paid such a f**king amount of money when he can't even mix?", while everyone else was having a ball. Drove me nuts!
There were times when I would rather go out to see someone who I knew he mixes really good (like Carl Cox), even if I didn't like what he was playing, than go to a club with "my" music mixed badly by some DJ.
But now I don't care as much. I think to myself "I know I'm better:)" and make the best out of it.
Still sometimes I hear a transition go off beat and think "make the new record a little faster, dude!". Can't help it.
Just don't jump to the DJ booth and grab into his turntables :whip: |

I remember somebody saying something about a program that you want to use on the computer to make mixes....
I've been using this for about a month now, works really well

I haven't even touched turntables yet, where I've really sat down and recorded anything, but with this software, it's very simple and it's free. The interface is kind of weird and may take some time getting used to it, but it's definately fun to play with.
I try not to use the magic button thingy, I'll usually listen to the structure of the music, like how you guys have talked before about 16/32 beat measures, and just mix the songs together. And hey, it doesn't sound half bad at all! :)
I'd highly recommend this program to anybody who's thinking about getting some tt's, but doesn't want to put any money into getting anything just yet. |
