Tiesto or Corsten?

I have heard recently that Ferry Corsten is more well liked in Europe than Tiesto. Can anyone verify this? In Canada I would have to say Tiesto is much bigger than Corsten.
Tiesto was always my favorite Dj, but over the past couple years or so that has changed.
I find he speed's up his tracks too much sometimes. An example would be Afterburn - Fratty boy off Magik 6. I think the track is playing way too fast. When i got my own copy of the vinyl I played it at regular speed and I was amazed by how much more I liked it.
I just listened to Corstens GlobalTranceMission cd and I really really liked it. |

| I prefer Corsten. Anyway, Tiësto is also damned good! But I prefer Corsten, cause Corsten turns the pure trance, meanwhile Tiësto sometimes turns a bit more commercial stuff sometimes. One of the best mixes I heard from Corsten is 'Live at Trance Energy' (29-04-2000). For those who have this mix: from 11:50 min, it's really heaven on earth... |

| I prefer Tiesto...he just has a certain sound and energy behind the songs he plays. I will admit that I am dissapointed with him playing all the same tracks lately, but then I figure DJ's shouldnt be putting a set together expecting them to be on the net the next day for everyone to listen to. He plays for the crowd...and knows what the crowd likes and wants to hear. |

| I havent listened to any of their live sets, but from hearing the music that they make themselves, I prefer Tiesto. Especially with Geoji, in Kamaya Painters. |

I'd have to say that the two DJ's have gone in completely different directions.....
Anyone who has heard any of Tiesto's most recent stuff can see that he is going progressive...
While Corsten on the other hand has been spinning for the commercial crowd. I am not a fan of the tracks that Corsten produces and remixes(too much synth), as opposed to those which Tiesto produces filled with nice rolling basslines and nice use of existing vocals, like Silence and Innocente.
About two and a half months ago, I heard an interview with Tiesto, where he was asked about the current relationship between him and Corsten, and he said that they had just grown apart in a sense, not to mention that he really needed to get out of Corsten's shadow.
So...In saying that, I would say that Corsten is a bigger in Europe, but over the next year or so, if the current trend continues, Tiesto's popularity will outshine Corsten's.
As far as your comment about Tiesto spinning to fast, well, I know that Energy 2000 was played at a quick pace, and it made it that much better.....I have never heard More and More, as well as Electra, sounds so good.

| I would definitely go for Corsten even though Tiesto is amazing. Tiesto sometimes goes too much commercial while Corsten always throws down an awesome 'real' trance set. I think Corsten's newest (Global Transmissions) is much better than Tiesto's (Magik 7). |

thats a pretty difficult one.
i am a tiesto fan all the way, but ive gotta say the last couple of corsten sets have blown me away, very impressive. i'd like to hear him play a later set though, the last few ive seen have been early sets, maybe he would play something different later on.. i don't know?
anyways, i still think tiesto just wins, but only just!

I would say Corsten sometimes goes overboard and lets the happy emotions "spill" too much. He needs to control himself and bring some variety into his sets and remixes, a little bit more magnificence, sadness, and power.
As for Tiesto, I like his "Summerbreeze" album, and that's why I'd choose Tiesto over Corsten. (I have to say, though, that Magik 6 bores the hell out of me -- all his uplifting starts sounding the same, it doesn't leave an impression, it sounds kinda nice and relaxing but not epic! So for all those that group "epic" and "uplifting" into the same category... there's a difference there, folks!) |
