im not startin drama with you erin, please don't roll your eyes at me... and i didn't say your fear wasn't 'valid' and i'm also not insulting , it's just that you're basing your fear on somethin that the media decided to blow up... and no, i'm *not* saying that priests didn't molest people.. cuz SOME of them did in fact molest children.... but there are WAY more "normal" and ordinary people that molest children and rape adults every single day.. u just intrigued me bc you're basing your fear on all priests when in fact, the reality is that maybe .01% of the priest population did actually commit the crime.. |

about the priest thing:
i'm reading betrayal for my public affairs reporting. it's written by the same group of reporters who did the reporting for the boston globe during the sexual abuse scandal.
it's horrifying.
even as a journalist myself i thought the stories were being hyped and blown out of proportion by the media when the scandal first broke, but they weren't. maybe the entertainment industry, etc. took it too far but it certainly was not the boston globe that distorted things.
a quarter of the way into this book i have realized that "molesting" and "sexual abuse" are euphemisms to say the least. some of these priests were vile, calculating and repulsive predators. and it's not just the priests who molested children that were at fault because the number of clergy members who ignored complaints and helped cover up is just enormous.
plenty of priests are not predators and do enormous good in this world. please do not accuse me of bias or prejudice because i come from a catholic family, and please read up this tragedy before you flame anyone for saying they are afraid of priests. |

i really dont appreciate your sarcastic, rude comments. not only in this thread but others. if you have a problem with me, which you seem to, take it to pms. i'm sick of you posting some petty bull after everytime i post.
and lunasea- its more than .01%. i did a paper on the whole priest scandal, which involved a lot of research. it turns out over 1,000 priests in the U.S. have been accused of sexual harassment and/or rape.
btw, i was HALF kidding when i posted that, but i guess from the response you can see all the laid back TA's we have on here.... (sarcasm ;)) |

I'm Scared of deep water, and heights(sometimes), and DC/Baltimore beggars(a friend of my friend almost died because one of them slashed his throat after he didn't give him any money). |

As far as the priest thing goes, whatever. Everyone's entitled to their own opinions. I've read up so much on religion that if the priest thing really gets your panties in a bunch, than you really haven't read your history.
Whether anyone likes it or not (and denying it doesn't make it go away) some of the greatest attrocities commited against humanity were supposedly done in the name of God. Look up the Albigensian Crusade and you'll see what I'm saying.
Do some research on the bs that you've been force fed to believe for all of your lives, you'd be amazed at what you'd find. Here, I'll be nice and give you a link to make things easier.

my psych teacher always pointed out people with these same phobias in class. There was always someone who could not go to sleep unless the closet was closed. He would always point out if there was a scary monster/rapist/murderer/albino clown in your closet, he prolly won't stop with a closed door :)....or maybe he will say to himself "damn she shut the door, I'll have to wait til tomorrow night"
nothing wrong with checking n everything, but it is an easy habit to break if you don't do it for a week.
