unless you're to pay the same amount of respect to all genres of music [and all things for that matter] you neednt complain. take the hip hop culture for instance. its a genre that has as much history and styles as electronica, but yet, many will categorize it and continually do so as "p.diddy" music. now is that hardly fair? |
I do pay the same amount of respect to all genres of music, I clearly recognise the difference between r&b, hip-hop and pop although they are fewer than those between techno and trance these days. I also believe that there is good and bad music of every genre. What i dont like however is that people often write off the entire genre of electronic music after hearing a "techno" song by scooter and later on when played something by say Andain they love it. |

In the old days (early nineties) wasnt trance called techno then??
Today I guess calling trance, techno is better than calling it 'doof doof poofter music' ? ;) |

techno can be used as a generic term to describe all eletronic dance music.
Yea its confusing but its not really ignorance its just that they dont realise that there is a separate genre called Techno. |

To all the people who are going off about this - chill.....
Can you decipher between every genre of heavy metal, nu-metal, death metal, metal-edge, dark metal, acid metal, etc.....????
I very much doubt it!!! And thats because we (myelf included) dont listen to that music, and no doubt if you heard a track of say metal-edge youd probably lump it in to the heavy metal category.... techno as was mentioned has become the generic name for all electronic music to those not in the scene, so if people call trance techno, big deal it just means that they have no idea what there talking about and their opinions on electronic music can be discarded..... case closed!!! :):):) |

i reckon its simply a case of them recognising an electronic beat/rhythm and placing it under the category in their minds marked "techno"
when we refer to it as trance, they assume we're talking about psi-trance
lets just remember (god forbid) how i was when i joined TA, i couldnt tell the difference between prog and uplifting melodic trance...
and lets not forget that we dont know a lot about other music styles... there may be a whole lot of genres of country and western music that we dont know about |

Most people who dont know/like electronic music I doubt would have ever herd of psytrance, not unless they live in Israel :conf:
Cos psytrance is probably as underground/uncommercial as you can get in dance music.
So obviously they must be somewhat informed if they even know that there is a genre of music called "psi-trance" |
