Hahah.. you gotta check this out.. I know some of you true trancers out there will bash me for this but here goes.
After listening to a lot of livesets out there (mainly PvDs) I noticed that some of the tracks have their pitch adjusted (ie. they're sped up) and if done right, this can turn a mediocre song into a massive floor filler. So I decided to try this on a few of the followings songs :
NU NRG - Energizer (B1 remix)
Tata Box Inhibitors - Freet (Trisco remix)
Rouge - Jingalay (Praha remix)
3 Phase feat Dr Motte - Der Klang Der Familie (Ian Wilkie remix)
and the pitch adjusted songs sound a lot better than before IMO .. Like I said, it's not something many of you will approve of but i thought I'd share this tidbit just in case you want to turn a song that you sorta like into a song that you can REALLY groove to. |

Seriously, I almost never listen to tunes at their original speed. But maybe that's cause I'm used to turntables and I like my beats at >145. (see my sig?;)) |

145 is not a high bpm... if u want high bpm, u need "real" hardhouse (about 155).. or happy hardcore (185 -- 190) or real hardcore... never under 200 hehe |

| Some tracks to sound better sped up. Energizer does sound better sped up, as does Pearls - Free Fall [Martin Eyerer Remix] and Arrakis - The Spice [New Club Mix] I think the first time you hear them in live sets, they are faster with more atmosphere, then you DL the single, and it's at the original pitch, and it just isn't the same! You then have to sort of slow yourself back down to the original, if you can't be bothered to re-record the track at the higher pitch. |

I have been thinking about customized some of these tunes I have. I noticed some of them need changes in sound, pitch, and tempo.
All I need some to learn some programs to do it.
Any recommendations anyone? |

gooseman, great idea (i actually thought about this before)
its a good way to groundbreak tracks, because they're more catchy.
but longer, more educated tranceheads will see thru the disguise quickly enough... anyways these tracks

are pretty damn good to begin with, so there! :)
try it on a horrible song like pulsedriver - cambodia or somethin
ps.. its flaming i know, but isnt everyone surprised how people say members of mayday - 10 in 1 (original) is horrible cheese, but ALL the big djs are spinning it? marco v, judge... etc. |

Dude, did ya see the ">" sign. Means greater/bigger than 145. That includes 155, 190 and even 582. OK ?
And for most people, the 138 BPM trance tunes are at high BPM when they are played at 150. That's what I mean.
Ask a hip-hop fan if 145 is "high" BPM.
Then ask a speedcore fan if 200 is "high" BPM. See what I mean? Only Moby made a track with high BPM. :)

you don't have to re-record the entire track. i have this winamp plugin that allows me to change the song to whatever pitch i please. most DJ's are spinning at 144+ bpm now and the original singles are at like 138 bpm or less. so it makes a difference to speed things up. i always liked it faster. |

Remember that we are on a trance forum, and 145 BPM is quite high for trance music... |

no i disagree 145 bpm is just about right. go check the bpm counts on most of the live sets we download everyday. they range from around 143-146 bpm. |

Yeah I know, and I use the one called Tempo made by the guys at Winamp. That's fine for my computer at home, but for tracks in the car you really need a decent pitch algorithm as used by Sound Forge to make it sound good. I tried the other pitch plug-ins for winamp and they sounded atrocious! |

Sorry, I'm in a pissed off day today, so I answer back :). At the live mixes, the BPM is indeed 145, but that's high. Cause it's at a party, it has to high, it gives an uplifting feeling at the party. But when you buy singles, or trance CD's at a record shop, most trance records are about 135 - 140 BPM, which is the original BPM (or the original remix BPM).
Ok, we could go on in this way for the rest of the day, anyway, I quit this discussion :). It does me thinking of the end of the movie 'Chicken run': the 2 chicks at the end are even discussing after the end of the moving, even when all the names of the producers already had been scrolled over the screen...If anyone have seen the movie, you will know what I mean :). |
