Ooooops

Maybe The 'DJ' thing is to recognize when you play/mix something that is not yours, but in this case... Tiesto should put his name as DJ Tiesto on 'Nyana'. I'm confused. :conf:

Maybe is like arj1o1 said:

"when a dj got booked for a club 5 years ago they say dj armin because if they say armin they will think it's a band or a live act but by dj armin they will now he going to spin records"

And now everybody in the scene knows who is Tiësto (or DJ Tiësto), Armin Van Buuren or DJ Armin (or AVB :D )

Yeap, me too. It's nice:)
I wouldn't mind a few aliases though;) Adds a little bit more to the whole thing:)

yeah, this is definitely a trend among the bigger DJ's.

after they are internationally known, there is no need to advertise themselves as DJ's... everyone knows!

i agree, most dj's that are just starting out put the dj in front of their name/alias but once they reach a certain level of fame/recognition, or when they enter the realm of production they drop the dj off...

in the case of dj's who dj, and then learn to produce, perhaps they drop the dj to show they are more versatile and don't strictly dj

in the case of gaining mass recognition, they dont need the dj in front of their name because everyone knows them already...

... was thinking about this today - and I think for the most part they've all done away with it.

I still remember when I got Blue Fear on Napster in 1998 and the filename was "DJ Armin - Blue Fear.mp3"

Cracks me up to this day.

but blue fear was released as 'Armin - Blue Fear'

i always thought that it was stupid when dj's would use stupid names like DJ assault or DJ funky fresh (please no comments on the examples hehehe)...it sounds so ametuer...

on the other hand it's pretty obvious they don't put DJ in front anymore. when dance was not as familiar as today to the commercial crowd the DJ part was needed to show it wasn't a singer.

Nowadays everybody knows the big dj's names, there even in commercials and on MTV. So the DJ part is not needed anymore.

Madonna doesn't have to have singer in front of her name either right
