how about some feedback?

Howdy all. I'm new here, and I've been reading the posts here for awhile. Seems like an intelligent and thoughtful place to get some feedback on some music I've been composing.

There's several pieces on the page, and any feedback, constructive criticism, etc. is welcome. Thanks in advance.

hey cheggy
I'm listening to the bass = trance track. The bassline is dirty and thick, but its too heavy and muddy. I think that the levels need to be reajusted and there is too much distortion in the kick, its not snappy enough.

Otherwise, its a good start at some evil hard trance.

Thanks for the feedback. I am using a lower-fi sample for the bass, and you've convinced me to find better. I'll "snap" up the bass drum a bit too. Appreciate it!

FEAR OF THE LORD:

You've done some sweet work here with that deep percussion! It gives the song a nice 'rolling forward' feel! In fact, I'd like to hear it a bit louder in the mix... I can barely hear the kick!

Your synths sound a little too "computery", if you know what I mean - maybe add some more FX?

Good job building intensity towards the end of the track - take it even further with a harder snare perhaps.

overall, not bad dark evil trance - keep it up!

Good music. I don’t mind the "computer" sounding samples, just makes it sound old school, which is cool.

A comment on your stereo use: you have many center stage loops, try spreading out the drums and widening some of the instruments. And in "Fear of the Lord," there was a sweeping beep loop that was harsh panning. I would cut down on the distance things like that travel, but then again, if you listen to one channel, it makes a really cool fading loop where the other half of the loop is lost to the other channel.

Also, in the future, I would cut back the out rightly religious titles. Create a little more mystery in the naming of your songs. Albeit only a shallow jerk would not listen because of the religious title, but pseudo-religious title might create more interest.

For example, I would use "Fear of the Sky" and have a phrase in there somewhere about being judged from above. That works on a few more levels, and I can interpret it in three general areas (What are they you ask? I leave it up to your own interpretation ;) That’s the point!). But then again, I'm just poetic by nature, and others may disagree completely.

Anyway, awesome tunes, keep it up and tell me what you think about my comments.

sooper: thanks for the comments. I'll try to throw in another (or just a different) snare towards the end. Never thought of my music as "evil", but, alas... :)

djglacial: yeah... panning. This tracker I've started working with is a lot easier to throw in effects now than ever before (FT2 vs Renoise), so I need to spend some loving time with my channels :)
As far as titles go, thanks for not being a "shallow jerk"! When I'm coming up with a title, if I'm using some vocal sample, usual that at least informs the title, but with pure instrumentals, I do get a little more creative. It also helps me to keep track of all these songs (over 200... yikes). Thank you for your insightful commentary!
