How often do you spin for fun / practice?

Just wondering how much everyone out there spins on their own time for fun / practice.

I would say it varies for me. I definetely spend more time when I know I have an event coming up. Usualy though, 1 - 2 hours when I get up and then 1 - 4 hours after school. I love it! Nothing more relaxing. =]

i try to get in an hour everyday although it ends up to be a lot more on the weekends
patticus
wow that's a lot
if i go a solid 1.5 hrs im pretty tired and .. esp. if im recording.

i dont think ive ever gone for longer than 2 hrs

the best is after when you just messinng around, come up w/ some crazy then

actually i have a dumb setup, i have a shorter desk so if i stand its harsh on my back, i sometimes sit down in a swivel chair adn then stand when im pumped, hehe

Yeah sometimes it does get to be too much. I start to realize I'm spinning a little too much when my legs are getting sore from standing up. :)

It's strange. I will force myself to stop sometimes. Turn everything off. Do something else like homework, but its like my decks are calling me. "MAKE ME SPIN" "MAKE ME SPIN" . hehe. Anyone else hear these voices?
Blinky
Those voices are actually pre-installed samples on your mixer. They have 2 purposes. 1- To make you wear out your equipment faster. 2- To keep you from doing homework so you end up having no choice but to try and DJ 4 a living. Bane or Blessing?

I spin a hour set everyday. There are somedays where I don't have time and I'm always pissed that night not being able to sleep without mixing a vinyl lol. So I literally get up and mix 2 records which makes me feel a lil bit better and I can sleep :p

yeh i know! i hate that man! i spin about 2-4 hours a day! even somedays more! right after school i watch tv and spin for 4 hours and go to bed! i cant do my hw any more! my grades been droping crazy but oh well! I dont want to spin all of my life! i want it to be a hobby not a career! it would be cool if i am a doctor

i'm beyond the stage most of you guys are in. But I was the same 7 years ago :D. I don't spin at home any more except for the set I record once a month. Only occasion I use my technics is when I get new vinyl. I'll count the BPMs and listen to the records once or twice to get to know the structure. That's it.
Kinda sad, but I haven't been spinning just for fun for 2 or 3 years now. But maybe that's because I can spin at parties now:).

Patticus, my first setup had me sitting in a swivel-chair, too!
patticus
dj dawn, thats hilarious... but you dont have fun anymore?
i guess maybe you just have fun at parties huh..

My techs a visit from moi at least an 1-2 hours a day. I mean no problem. On weekends (as it was previously said) I can spin 4 hour sets no problem. All of a sudden I'm like I'm hungry! haha

My fav thing about spinning is that, no one talks to you. No distraction of voice. Just concentration and enjoyment of tunes. I love it. For me it's relaxing cuz I never shut up.

I hope I always enjoy spinning, DJ Dawn, I can see what you mean mainly because it's money to you now.

nah, don't get me wrong here. First, it's not money to me. I do get paid for playing at parties, but it's hardly enough to make up for the records I buy.
Second, I still enjoy spinning very much. I just don't do it at home any more. When you got your chance to play in front of hundreds/thousands of people, spinning at home just isn't the same any more.
I don't want to sound arrogant here, but I don't see the need to practice at home. I concentrate on memorizing the records structure so I can put them to good use.
The only thing I still really want to learn is harmonic mixing. But before I can do that, I need someone to teach me the basics of music in terms of keys and stuff. As long as I cannot find out the key of a given record, there is no way I'll get into harmonic mixing. And right now, I don't have the time to learn these things, cause I'm too involved in my studies.
greets!
