theres no way. say you were gonna spin at a club friday. how would you be able to contact ferry corsten, tiesto, or any big name dj to ask for their consent to play their record. i highly doubt you need their consent.

Technically, you need the permission of the label that published the track.
Of course, in real life you don't need to bother. Just spin away.

Think about it, why do most trance/electronic artists have their stuff put on vinyl anyway...to have it spun at clubs/parties, if then the focus would be more on CDs which are released too but more emphasis is put on the vinyl. So by releasing a vinyl, artists are pretty much are telling the buyer to spin this.

wouldnt it make sense though, u see everyone djing and not like the cds or vinyls say "can't reproduce or like play in large wahtever" like videos do, i'm not sure about vinyls cause i never had one *booooo* anyways people who mix without even giving credit sucks even if they mix good. IE: dj mystik

I could have sworn that one of the reasons that vinyl costs so much is that not only are you buying the single, but you are also buying the rights to play that single. And even then, you are advertising their product. How many times have you gone out and bought a song you first heard @ the club? Its good free advertising!

Thanks guys. I knew I was right lol. :D

I always assumed of it like a public entertainments license or something. The club pays for a license to play copyright material and part of that will find it's way back to record companies.

I'm guessing though. Whatever the answer, I doubt the Judge will be turning up at your free party with the fuzz because you played a hi-Gate tune without asking.

If you make a mix CD using other people's tracks and then sell it they you really deserve to be anally raped with a rusty spoon. That's just plain wrong. And don't think that you can get away with it if it is only sold locally - not too long ago many Toronto stores have been raided and all mixtapes and CDs that have been sold there have been confiscated. On the other side, if you just give away the CD for promotional purposes, that should be o-tay, as long as you indicate that the CD is for demo purposes and not to be sold. Again, "technically" this is illegal too but labels and artists usually tolerate this.

Im quite sure you need theyr permission for that...... Ive thought about it to though.....I think thats why the "infamous" record stores cant afford to have the Greatest track into the complications...cause they cant afford to buy the right for all trax...im just guessing around here.....am i right?

as far as I know you are right mindshooter.

RAPED WITH A RUSTY SPOON! well thats like inmate style...why not actually make the man hurt...used a cattle prod...or even worse..take the tune maker out of the b-day card...stick that in his ass and every time something moves youve got a jingle.
