I'm new to the scene, some questions about ibiza

I went to see sasha and ferry corsten at labour of love in toronto late august and i was blown away. I had always enjoyed stuff like the chemical brothers but never really got into the electronic music scene. But after labour of love my mind was blown. I am trying to make up for lost time.
Here are some questions maybe some of you can answer them
QUESTION NUMBER 1)The oldest clubs in ibiza: Space, Pacha, Privilage and Amnesia....supposedly they have been around since the mid 70s...correct? So before house in the 80s what were these places playing? Disco? New Wave?
QUESTION NUMBER 2) Does anybody take Fatboy Slim seriously or is he just a sellout with a large record collection?
QUESTION NUMBER 3)I am going cross europe backpacking over next summer and looking for some cool places to go clubbing. I am hitting ibiza and i am also travelling through Germany, Amsterdam, Vienna, Prague, Italy, Zurich, France...any suggestions?
QUESTION NUMBER 4)How do I get these promotional fliers in Ibiza to get a discount at the door?
QUESTION NUMBER 5)Besides forums like this, and old essential one radio mixes (Thanks P. Tong) how do I keep up with the scene. With most of the crap that comes out today it is on the billboard charts, in rolling stone or spin but the electronic scene is different
Any Suggestions?

Thank you for reading my long list of questions. Any answer is appreciated

dont know much about ibiza, i got a link from friend with all the info about ibiza nightlife. I only lost the link but if i speak her this week i will post it here.

but i know some awnsers on question 3 and 5.

but first of all, Ibiza is expensive. when you go there a week you need at least 1500 euros and since you are flying from the us it will cost you more.

3> Ok you want to go backpacking, if you want the best electronic dance partys you have to go to Holland, Germany or England

Holland>

Dance Valley < my personal favorite, i have been to UK an Germany but nothing is better than Dance Valley.> every year it is held on the first saturday in august. the 2004 edition will be the 10th edition of dance valley so it will be a blast. you can expect just the best djs from all over the world. the festival is near amsterdam

Mysteryland, in my opinion not as good as dance valley but without a doubt hollands second best rave. this festival is also near amsterdam and is held in the month august.

Amsterdam, okay this isnt a party but the city rocks. a lot of coffeshops and just walk through the red light district. there is always something to do. Watch out for pickpockets in amsterdam, be carefull with your mobile phone

Things you shouldnt do when you are in holland> actually getting laid in the red light district. I dont if you know the party sensation, it is a big event in a soccer stadium. If you look at the pictures you might think it is the best party of the world but it isnt. Just go to dance valley or mysteryland they are soooo much better than sensation.

Germany> in the summer there is the love parade and Nature One

Love parade> a giant parade with 750 000 visitors, about 30 trucks with djs, dancers, and party people. If you wanne rxperience the love parade to the fullest you should go a few days. FOr example friday saturday and sunday. The parade is on saturdau but there are a lot of pre and after partys.

Nature One> A 3 day during dance festival. One of the best partys in europe. and one of the few that has a 3 day license.

Uk> Creamfields, Godskitchen

These 2 festivals have everytime the best line up in the world. But my experience with godskitchen is that the organisation isnt that good. for example> About 30 min waiting for toilets. Dont know how well creamfields was organised this year but godskitchen was very bad. Maybe i am a natiolist but I prefer to party in holland, the girls are also much better in holland!!

5>Like you said, just follow forums like this, it is the best way to get information.

hope i gave enough information, if you have a question or something just PM me

greetings from a sunny holland

The North American charts are all crap, yes. There's really no 'good' trance that makes it here in North America. The best way I have found at following the scene is reading these forums and listening to recent livesets. Listen to http://www.ets-global.org for their new music weekend, and various weekly radio shows (Like A State of Trance with Armin van Buuren).

You could also find charts on http://www.only-djs.com for electronica.

These are just the things i do, there are probably more ways.

1) Pacha was opened 1973, Es Paradis in 1975, Space in 1988. Amnesia was an abandoned Ibizan farm house, hippies started holding their own parties in it in the late 70s and it was turned into an actual club early in the 80's. Privelege was opened in the 70's also! Musical style, don't ask me, ask somebody who was there!

2) Surprisingly a lot of people take Fatboy Slim seriously. It is my personal opinion that he can't really mix that well but as I haven't really heard him play that much I can't really comment.

3) Ask poeple who live in the countries...

4) Just walk down the street and you will be jumped by the annoying PR folk working for all the major nights. "Where you going tonight?", "Do you know who Judge Jules is?", "You ever heard of Godskitchen?" annoying as hell. You will have no problem getting discount flyers, but its best to buy your tickets before getting into the clubs, even bigger discounts await there, many places to buy them so ask around!

5) Check out all the different websites to do with the scene, record label sites, producer sites, DJ sites etc. Talk to people who have an interst in the scene, they will help keep you upto date!

since i live in ibiza i guess i can answer some of those questions

q1)only pacha was really around in the 70īs, mostly dj pipi was spinning there (dunno really what i wasnt around back then :D ) and ya cant really expect those old hippys to know what kinda music theyre listening to ;)
privilege used to be called KU and came about in the late 70īs
space is quiet new as far as i know
amnesia used to be a little finca with tons of drug addicts inside ;) its quiet nice now....actioally really nice....gotto say its prolly the best club on ibiza besides pacha

q2) na hes a big joke :toothless

q3) dunno bout other places really

q4) just go at the port/tourist area at night in ibiza town....theres millions of people offering you discout flyers...althought the discount inst really "big"

q5) well the dj mag is really useful round here. got lots of dates and infos in it.
websites from the clubs here are also all quiet useful.

hope i could help you a bit ;) btw donīt try go to san antonio, its the worst touristic commercial crap this island has ever seen

Going to Amsterdam is a must. Getting stoned, getting laid, getting drunk, getting educated...

This city rocks :D

I was actually told as an American, San Antonio is the best place to stay because a lot of English people are there so it makes for easy conversation in europe (so i dont have to hablo espanol todo el tiempo) and also that it is relatively cheap to stay there
Was I mislead?

Depends on what type of holiday you are looking for. San Antonio seems to be set up for the British tourists. You will find more English speakers in San Antonio than Ibiza Town. It is also cheaper to stay in San Antonio, but there is a reason for the cheapness. If you wish to spend your entire holiday surrounded by beer boys making excess noise and drinking much more than they can handle then yes San Antonio is the place for you. However, if you wish to go on a clubbing holiday with calm peaceful surroundings then I would recommend Ibiza Town, there is a better vibe from Ibiza Town and all the "decent" clubs (decency is in the eye of the beholder) are nearer.

Couldnt of said it better myself but the beer boys do stay in their own district (west end) and tend to stay out of the clubs (for the mostpart) if your on a budget i recomend san antonio, ibiza town is only a short bus ride away, and eden and esparadise are in san an. most biggies are on the road inbetween except for space and pacha,dc10
but anyways, yes phatboy slim sucks.
