Wasn't funk einsatz just the name when the track came out on promo, then later being released fully as Ferry Corsten - Punk?
I've actually seen the music video and there is the wording funk einsatz on the door of the club where the video is set. |
funk einsatz must be a ferry corsten alias.
Ransom - My Dance has also been known as Funk Einsatz - My Dance, and im guessing that randsom is therefore also a fc alias. |

Nah, Ransom's two guys, it's nothing to do with Ferry. You're right, though, it used to be known as Funk Einsatz - My Dance. I suppose his remix was initially meant to be a cover of sorts, probably a copyright issue or something. Good tune anyway, better than Punk. ;) |

He got more than negative feedback from Armin Van Buuren. Picotto was taken to court and lost the case. |
Ahh, thanks. I wasn't sure if Armin really did that. |

Neither one of those is the original - they're both remixes of Coldplay's "Clocks" (along with several hundred other mixes). |

the melody is from some old soviet movie if my memory serves me right! i prefer the luna park tune from these two btw!
and i think it's completely legal to make a cover of some tune as long as you make it yourself ie not from samples from the original, then you don't even have to have a permission to do it! but if you sample from the original you're going to need a permission! the original writer/composer/whatever get royalties automatically from these cover versions normally. if you give credit to the original writer/composer/whatever then it's legal, if not then it's illegal!
simple really! but i'm not sure where the royalties come from and how much are they, because i have bad memory!:D |

the binary finary track is availible for reproduction with permission.
hence neo & farina's recent attempt aswell on the platipus label.
skip, you DO need persmission to copy melodies and all, adn you cant just credit tha original artist, you must have there permission and if the track is still licensed to a label, you must have the labels permission aswell (like positiva still own the rights to binary finary, hence hte re-release this yr inc ronski speed mix). the original artists does not automatically get royalties, they have to be agreed before hand if there are any at all.
another example is:
barbers adagio for strings is availible for reproduction without permission
because he's dead for one, and no label is going to re-release the original. |

How can you say the original? Its just a classical piece... designed to be played by an orchestra surely? so there is no 'original version'? |

you don't need permission here in finland at least! and you can use some tracks like many years after the composer has died! i think it was 70 years or something like that, then you don't need even to pay the royalties!
how can scooter survive then if it's illegal to make covers without permission? they make nothing but covers and i'm pretty sure they haven't had a permission for most those tracks! why didn't m.i.k.e. sue them? because he had nothing on them! they hadn't done anything illegal!
that's the way it goes afaik! there's loads of covers but no one ever asks permission for those, because there's no need! |

You're wrong, Skip.
In Finland you can play cover versions live (at gigs etc.) all you want but if you're going to put it on CD/vinyl you need a permission for it.
The only situations when it's ok to put cover versions on albums are:
A) The writer of the original/the label has approved it
B) The writer of the original/the copyright holder has been dead for a certain amount of time
C) No label owns rights to it.
Edit:
As far as the M.I.K.E./Scooter story goes, MIKE could sue them and win, easily... because Scooter's tracks are not covers - they don't give credit to the original, they just take the melody and insert it to their own tune.
Then again, I can't recall anyone saying MIKE didn't approve those versions... |
