To date over 70 million dollars has been collected through the levy and there is a good possibility the levy will be raised and extended to MP3 players, flash memory cards and recordable DVDs sometime in 2003.

Haha, , you'd think that would satisfy them, eh?

Wow, a levy is way smarter than these bs lawsuits. I think that's the approach the RIAA is eventually going to have to take if they want to maintain any respect from the public.

I use blank CD's for a hell of a lot more than audio, which kind of makes a levy stupid. But whatever.

yes, but it keeps file sharing legal up here, without tons of silly lawsuits against 12 year old girls.

You mean you use them for burning movies and ISO's too? :toothless

I love my country..

SCREW YOU RIAA!!!!!!

btw...even if this law did not exist, our privacy laws are strict as heck...so getting an isp to give up the user identity is not easy. I'll take the music industry getting 70 million rather the idiotic RIAA suing people for no reason. Then again, I buy albums and will continue doing so for several years to come. Anyway, the CDN version of the RIAA is very weak and has like no power. Blame us, that's fine....I don't care.

Just make sure to get your new MP3 player before this levy is imposed to harshly :D

Seriously...how harsh can the tax be...an extra 10 bucks?...then again...i rather have that and the strong privacy laws than a group of lawyers...being paid by an industry group because they lost the mp3 war and are still losing it. CD sales continue to drop...faster than micheal jackson's career....i mean they had the oppt. in early 1997 to virtually control mp3's but passed on them. They are like the big 3 automakers about 4 yrs ago, who thought that the same tired methods worked on the customers but as nick warren says in the gu024 notes...you can't stand still for 10 yrs and expect everything to be the same. In the music industry, nothing stands still.
