More trancy tunes came along in early 90s, with Orbital - Halcyon, Zyon - No Fate for example. me too! in the eighties, i used to listen to EBM (electronic body music) such as Front 242, Nitzer Ebb, and synth as Depeche Mode and Kraftwerk, Jarre etc. in the 90's i would like to add early underworld stuff from 1994, FSOL's record and then some great Drum'n'Bass stuff (which really got boring after a few years), e g DJ Kicks series w Kemistry & Storm (AMAZING MIXING AND REALLY HARD BREAKS). |

It all started for me in the late 80's when I started to DJ at this youth club at my school, freshman year. It was a non profit organisation that got 5 vinyls a week, and the decks had no pitch control and a standard mixer, but it was still fun!
Then early 90s I remember hearing moby/carl cox and it went more in a techno direction. I still have my Hit the decks vol.1-3 (battle of the dj's) somewhere. Then I turned more towards a eurodance direction with 2 unlimed/Capella/Dj BOBO/Captian hollywood project.
Then, as for most, it all changed late 90s when I heard astral projection and picked up "a voyage into trance" mixed my paul oakenfold. And when I downloaded Oakenfolds essential tour online from radio1 it was all over and I become addicted. |

as for the early 90's i was a strict hardcore head.......
but sven vath, casper pound, the beloved, v trax & just that synthy sound & experimentation got me into trance......
honestly i really dont like paul van dyke :) sorry........
I think i like trance more for the music then the dj's.......... Honestly most trance dj's boar the crap out of me cuse that is all they play is trance.......
grrrrrrrrrrrrr mix it the up. keep me interested. |

| My sophmore year in high school i worked at a computer store and every one listend to trance. So i guess that was 1999! |

| probably since around 97. it was when oakenfold's gu new york album came out. before that it was mostly drum n bass which i heard on the radio. |

I think it also has to do with how your society is and how big your city is. For me they only had a very small collection of techno/trance, and you could do postal orders, but ordering vinyl and not knowing how it sounded was a long shot.
Also when I spun at clubs most of them wanted club music in the form of Eurodance. So it just went in that direction. I remember one time I played "james brown is still alive" don't remember the artist/title of the track, but alot of people didn't really like it.
I personally prefer to listen to mixes from dj's. Listning to a 7min trance or otherwise song bores me. I prefer to have a track shorter and mixed in for different sounds. But what I think makes a great DJ is having a broad music taste and sampling in classic music or even a pitched blues song and merge it with the track you are playing. To make it different and more interesting rather than focus just on the transition. |

I have a very similar evolution of music, except I was never a DJ. And I own all the music that I have heard since '76. Disco, retro, 90s eurodance - THOSE OLD YEARS WERE THE YEARS OF AWESOME EURODANCE MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!! I also went through the techno scene, accumulated heavily by Orbital. Then trance, hehe, and that Oakey's album sure had a strong impression on me. And Astral Projection - when discovered them first on MP3.com back in '2000, I was blown away .... |
