Well pretty much all the big DJs released solo CD's with original work in past couple of years.
Paul van Dyk with "Reflections" being the newest.
Armin van Buuren with "76"
BT with "Emotional Technology"
Kai Tracid with "Contemplate: The Reason You Exist"
ATB with "Addicted To Music"
Astral Projection with "Amen"
Paul Oakenfold with "Bunkka"
Sasha with "Airdrawndagger"
ATB with "Dedicated"
Kai Tracid with "Trance And Acid"
Tiesto with "In My Memory"
BT with "Movement In Still Life"
BT with "ESCM"
(The above is just a list of the stuff i own/i listen to/ or i heard.)
Just wanted to say that I own all of those albums (besides PvD's new, i have the mp3 rip, but not the actual CD) and that most of them have been a huge disappointment. PvD has 3-4 good tracks on his CD, so i guess he delivered in a decent fashion. "Airdrawndagger" has its moments with "Cloud Cuckoo" and "Wavy Gravy", but then its sorta weak imo. Oakie had some tracks on his "Bunkka" that kept me somewhat interested (Southern Sun, Hypnotised) but the rest of the album was and is a piece of . Armin... uhh lets not even talk about Armin. "76" has one of my favorite tunes of 2003 "Wait For You (Song for the ocean)" and... well ... that's it, nothing else good about that album. But now Tiesto, on the other hand, simply had an awesome album. I mean.. FLIGHT 643, SUBURBAN TRAIN, LETHAL INDUSTRY, IN MY MEMORY, OBSESSION, MAGIK JOURNEY, arent they all pretty much classics? If not all, Flight 643 and Suburban Train for sure are. Now to my man Kai. I mean OMFG! Yes i said the cheese line. "Trance and Acid" is one of my favorite albums of all time. Pink Floyd's "Darkside of the Moon", "T&A" takes me on a better journey. Every song on that CD is so good. Destiny's Path, The Deep Blue, Suicide, Message Without Words, Peyote Song, Trance and Acid .. THE WHOLE ALBUM IS GOOD!!!!! And then his sophmore album "Contemplate (The Reason You Exist)" WOW! Maybe not as good as "T&A" but a sure keeper. Tracks like Far Beyond Your Wildest Imagination, I Don't Want To Live 4 Ever, Drift Deep Into Your Own Thoughts, Express Your Hidden Passion.. AWWWWWWWWWWW! Now to psy/goa, Astral Projection released a good album too. "Amen" is pretty decent with tunes like Infinity Justice, Chaos, Heaven's Gate.. but nothing Mahadeva-like :). BT...uhh BT. Excellent producer, but his newest "Emotional Technology" is nothing special. "ESCM" is of course great. Flaming June is on there!:)
His "Movement in Still Life" is the insane. I mean.. Dreaming, Mercury and Solace, Godspeed.. all awesome tracks. Yeah and I forgot ATB. "Dedicatd" is a good album with tracks like Let U Go, Hold You, I Wanna Cry, and Dedicated. His new one "Addicted to Music" is not bad either. In Love With The DJ is good and so are I Don't Wanna Stop and Long Way Home. Anyways, the purpose of this thread is to list your favorite original/solo albums. Here is my list.
1. Kai Tracid - Trance and Acid (2002)
2. Dj Tiesto - In My Memory (2001)
3. Kai Tracid - Contemplate [The Reason You Exist] (2003)

5. Paul van Dyk - Reflections (2003)
6. ATB - Dedicated (2002)
7. BT - ESCM (1997)
8. Sasha - Airdrawndagger (2002)
9. Astral Projection - Amen (2003)
10. BT - Emotional Technology (2003)
11. ATB - Addicted To Music (2003)

Well I can see your disappointment as soon as I saw Bunkka on that list. That album just sucked anus. Anyways, since I don't have many solo albums, I'll just list the couple that I do have:
BT - Emotional Technology
Global Underground 007: Paul Oakenfold: New York
Perfecto Presents: South America: Hernan Cattaneo
Sasha - Airdrawndagger
John Digweed - MMII |

Yeah.. however. GU07, Cattaneo in SA, and MMII are not solo/original albums. They are compilations. |

one of the best trance original artist album imo are System F - Out of the blue, Tiesto - In My Memory, Ayla - Nirwana & Paul van Dyk - Out there and Back... of course there are other superior ones like Push's and Airwave but those 4 i mentioned are among my favs...

I agree that In My Memory is an excellent artist album. It was what truly put Tiesto on the map for me. I also agree that 76 was nothing to write home about.
1. Way Out West - Intensify
2. DJ Tiesto - In My Memory
3. Sasha - Airdrawndagger
4. BT - Movement In Still Life
5. Paul van Dyk - Out There and Back
I don't have Reflections ranked because I'm waiting until the actual release to hear the thing in its entirety.
Does Way Out West count, even though Warren and Wisternoff DJ separately? On a related tangent, I don't really think you could count BT as a "big" DJ at all.
If producers count too, then CJ Bolland - The Analogue Theatre deserves mention. |

Good point Cobalt. When I wrote this thread I originally aimed it at "big DJs." However, I did mess up by putting BT in the list, however it is the stuff that I own and the man is a good producer. But i think maybe we should keep this 'dj-wise', if i can express myself with that term. |

John Digweed - Stark Raving Mad
it's with Nick Muir but it's rather interesting 2cd album =) It's of note not all the stuff on here is by Digweed & Muir aswell, although I *thinK* a lot of the music on it is exclusive to this compilation (not released on any other medium) if that makes sense. |
