When was the first cd-writer be introduced

does anybody know when the very very first cd-writer for consumers was introduced (year)
and does anyone have a pic
its for school

| when they where first introduced they whernt really for the consumer market as so expensive but over time the price fell, and i think around 1996 was when they came out in force |

| yes but the ones, expensive or not, big or small, consumers can buy to write cd's |

I bought my first one in late 1997..for like 300 bucks (got a wuper deal) was a 4x2x4X CD RW.
But yes, early on they were definitely NOT consumer products.
The lab I worked in in college had a JVC 1x cd writere that was in a small tower case and had an 800 MB hard drive in it to mirror the data before burning. I think they told me the lab had bought it in 1994 for $11,000.
