i've always loved:

tchaikovsky: waltz of the snowflakes

Nosmo
Mahler's 5th symphony is amazing. I heard the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra (at the time, the best symphony in the US) present the entire piece. The fourth movement, Adagietto, was as beautiful as ever. You've probably heard it without even knowing it. It will--dare I say?--make you cry.

Don't mean to be a netpicker but The Flight of The Bumblebee was composed by Russia's Rimsky-Korsakov. :)

The most recommended classical recording from me would be Bach's Goldberg Variations performed by Murray Perahia. Truely amazing performance and the best one to date! For a more thought-provoking rendition, I would suggest Glen Gould's 1982 recording. :D

In terms of Opera, Bizet's Carmen comes to mind. The opera has so many popular tunes - perfect for the opera n00b, and nostalgic for opera buff! :tongue3

For more contempoary, yet melodic stuff, try getting your hands on Ryuichi Sakamoto's album "1996". Accompanied by the violin and cello, and Sakamoto himself on the piano, this album contains Sakamoto's best works, but re-arranged for a trio! Having the violin play the main melody of Merry Xmas Mr. Lawrence [melody from Watergate - Heart of Asia] sounds sooooooo sweeet! :p

Aside from all the works already mentioned, I'd reccomend works by Verdi like Aida, or by Vivaldi like the 4 seasons. Beethoven's 9th simphony (ode to joy) is also quite nice. Wagner's works like Ride of the Valkyras are also quite nice if you're into epic-sounding operas.

John Dowells - Seven Tears is a must hear, especially the opening is pure bliss. And of course Samuel Barber's original Adagio For Strings, the climax in this one has moved me in a way very few other musical works have.

I love classical music. So passionate and charged with emotion. I especially love piano pieces. Some of my faves:

Chopin:

Funeral March, C Minor, [Op. 72 no 2]
Impromptu-Fantasie, C sharp Minor, [Op. 66] :eyes:
Any Waltzes, Nocturnes, Scherzos, etc.

Liszt:

Piano Concertos 1, 2
Liebestraume (of course)
Hungarian Rhapsody 2

Beethoven:

Moonlight Sonata (esp. 3rd movement)
Symphonies (esp. 3, 8, 9)
Piano Concertos (esp. #5, his best work IMO)

Rachmaninoff:

Some fantastic piano pieces - Piano ctos. 1-4 and
Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini (his most famous piece)

Mozart:

So much good stuff. Truly a master of operas: Don Giovanni, Marriage of Figaro, Zaide (my fav.)
Symphonies are great (esp. #41, IMO)
Requiem in D (my fav. by Mozart)

Bach:

Goldberg Variations
Brandenburg Concertos
