New Track: Super Synth
View this Thread in Original format

Hey guys, first time posting in here. I'm mostly new to production, been DJing for a few years tho. Anyway this is my latest construction that i am considering turning into a full-blown track but i want to know what people think about the lead, melody, and bassline. The percussion is not certain yet, but its probably a good indication of the direction I plan on taking the full track. This sample is only 44 seconds, but thats just so you can hear what's important. So anyway, if anyone has any suggestions, comments, wants to make fun of me, etc. let me know!

Track is here: http://www.level3webs.com/tracks/super_synth_track.MP3

Thanks!

Haha, close... its actually Pro-53 on the synth, and Steinberg Neon on the bassline.

Any comments, come on i know its not a fullblown track but i need to know if i should make it one.

some advice (mainly criticisms sorry)
- Lead is simple but not catchy... a good tune needs either a simple catchy tune or a complex and melodic tune... work on that melody a bit... it will get repetitive
- hihats needa bit of mid-high frequency boosts around 800-1000 hz
- your bass kinda sux :(... it is muddy, the rhythm is overly simple and doesn't compliment the kick very well... at least an offbeat bass like a K - B - K - B - will do better and even then it would be an overly simple bass... play around with the rhythm.. get it to be driving and catchy
- percussion needs more to it... add some more beef and drive to it... ie. more hats, shakers, snares, etc...
- lead melody could use some reverb/delay and maybe a flanger if u use fruity loops...

hope that helps.. sorry for all the criticisms but it's all constructive i hope ;)

Yes those critisms help because they are constructive, at least i have some ideas now to work with. I wasn't sure where to go with the lead because im not sure how to change the sequence, i'm gonna try to make it change in the 4th bar. Also i wasnt sure about the bassline, because ive heard it compliments the lead, but also if it sounds muddy thats bad so maybe i'll bring it out, or eq it a bit to make it sound punchier.

And yeah i know the percussion sucks, i dont really have a drum kit i am happy with as of now, so until i find one its gonna suck, hahha, but that doesnt really matter if im working on a lead, melody, and bassline.

Anyway thanks a lot, i'll be working on this in the future and have a new sample up.

Anyone else got comments? Heard anything like it before? I'm trying not to copy everything i've heard over the years...

hay

i agree with everything kewlness sed...but i didnt actually didnt hear a bass tho?

yeah needs to have more to the percussions for sure, speed it up perhaps? cant go wrong with 140.

the melody is lacking like kewlness said...from that sound id say go simple and catchy.

ok cya
