Organising Your Vinyl (pg. 2)

my vinyl organisation: 1 crate full of vinyl. :D
It's a mess, If I have time I will create some sort of classification. I Prefer classifications on artist. A classification on artist is usually also a good indicator for genre. So actually, It has the advantage of the genre classification and it's easy to put back. (just my 2 cents) |

| i go from whatever mix im working on to prog then to vocal tracks then to anthems and then to hard stuff |

I try and organise my crate/bag the same as I'd expect the music to play through the night. eg start light/housey, slowly moving funkier and deeper then on a dark or an uplifting tip. In the future I hope to order by bpm (this should match up with what i already have so no biggie) and then key!
messing around in a bag is not fun! :) |

| Mine is organized first by style and then by BPM.. though "style" also means I have it seperated out into hard trance, progressive trance, etc. so that I can start out with some more prog. stuff then move into harder stuff.. depending on how the crowd reacts.. sometimes moving into some trance breaks like Hybrid |

Mine have no real order -- the most recently purchased ones go in the front of my first crate. Sometimes newer but less-used ones go in the front of my second crate. Old stuff that I haven't used in a while and probably won't break out again for a good while stay in a third crate. :)
It sounds chaotic, I know; but I know where each one is. If I were to organize it by genre/warmup/energy/artist etc, basically in the order I would play them in a set, I'd be afraid that I'd limit myself too much in what I play, and when I play it. |

I feel the same, which is why I haven't changed the order of any of my vinyls from when I purchased them (that's the order they are in) |

sorry to dig up an old thread but i've been having terrible trouble organizing my vinyl.
initially i had it by colour of the sleeve, dumb i know but i'm dyslexic and the colour was generally how i remembered the vinyl therefore the tune, and therefore made it easy to find.
However, this method made it harder for me to think which tunes may go together as there was no assemblance of relevance tune to tune in the crate. Short term memory problem and an inability to remember names made this even harder.
I tried by label via country in alphabetical order but i have so many individual tunes from one label that 50 of them were just messy.
Now i am to try genre via name or mix, lets hope something works. |
