nobody replied to my old post, maybye it was the title or something so iam reposting it...

Firstly it's now the ibiza season and i was just wondering what you ppl think is gonna big sound, 99 was trance 2000 was hrd house whats this year? lotsa ppl are saying its progressive.

secondly whats ure fave tunes at the moment? mine are...

1)DJ tiesto-urban train.......AWSOME!!!
2)Firewall-reflections
3)Mauro picotto-like this like that
4)Vincent de moor-fly away
5)Dj digress-bailia para mi
6)mauro picotto-komodo (save a soul)

and much more thats too long to go on about.

Thirdly what would you ppl class as cheese? to me cheese is a track thats often v.commercial where the artist is trying their best to make the song sound cool in an underground style but it sounds like a pop/dance crossover so the commercial audience love it but we think it sounds really bad because its a pathetic attempt at making it sound underground. What is pissing me off though is when a trance/dance tune becomes commercial and the underground audience describe it as cheese. just because a trance track enters the charts it doesn't make it cheese for example darude sandstorm and atb-till i come were both great tracks and if they didn't enter the charts none of u would call it cheese!

thirdly a lot of ta's are critisising other ppls fave tunes because they say their songs are old. it seems to me a track can't be out for a month without it being dated! how long would u ppl say a track can be out for before its old?

phew ive finished!!! well what da'ya fink?!

I've been hearing that this year's sound is progressive...stuff like John Digweed and Max Graham spin. You have a great definition of 'cheese' there to, that's basically mine. There can be a great song that is underground but once it gets up in the charts, it suddenly becomes 'cheesy'.

I disagree with that statement... In my opinion, a song is either good, or cheese, (or ) to begin with. It doesn't get any cheesier if it gets more successful, or even overplayed. If it gets overplayed, then it can become annoying, but not cheesey.

Sound of 2k1 = progressive/tribal, everyone is jumping on that bandwagon....

Songs are cheesy from the start, songs become commercial when they get overplayed...alot of people consider everything with a snare roll cheese, or just a really overdown atmosphere to a tune...

Like, I would consider komodo cheese, and probably fly away, most uplifiting/epic tracks now get called cheese by alot of people, oh well, who cares, if I like a song, I tend to not give a what other people say

I would definitively say it's a year for progressive trance... just look at what all the top DJ's are spinnin'! A few have gotten what I call 'harder'...

On the subject of cheesy music, the trance and other dance music that reaches the Top 20 or any other chart is music that appeals to the general publics ears. For example, I've heard more trance on radio and TV than I have hardhouse.
Trance is of course more melodic than hardhouse, and I for one know that my mom would rather listen to Fragma with it's nice, soothing vocals and samples, than she would Lisa Lashes, Rachel Auburn, and Tidy Boys. (And I know that girls like stuff with vocals in it...they ask for it all the time!) I like uplifting and 'take-off' stuff mostly, like Armin Van Buuren and Ferry Corsten.

Favorite tracks at the mo? Hmm, let's see...

Armin Van Buuren - Touch Me Part 2 (The Remixes)
Fast - Transmission (The Remixes)
Tenth Planet - Ghosts (The Remixes)
The Scene - Cyber Human
Lars Holte - Loveparade Album 2001

SMAK (aka Jon Bishop) - (Rock) To The Rhythm, could be considered hardhouse, so I didn't include it, but it's such a completely whacked tune... ya gotta hear it! Some of the others on the list are a bit old, but hey, haven't found much which is better yet...

Otherwise, I reckon Ferry and Vincent should do a 2000 something version of 'Veracocha - Carte Blanche' (or then again, that might be tampering with perfection!)
