Disrespect During Meaningful Presentations

Well, i'm watching some taped sports show that happened around the 9/11 incidents.
It's a martial arts competition from Japan and just before the event is about to start, they decide to have a full minute of silence. I think we can all remember, internationally, having participated in a time alloted by schools/workforce/rallies for a moment of silence. One thing that amazed me was, actually, a moment of silence! Now, i know there is about 10,000 people in this arena, so maybe SOME people were talking about popcorn or whatever, but as far as i can tell, it was absolutley a showing of international support and commemoriation. point of this thread?

I was in a junior when this event occoured at a school that held pep rallies every 3 months. So anyways, the pep rally event starts off and the principal asks for a moment of silence to remember/ponder the events of 9/11. I keep my silence and i actually was praying to support the victims and families of the incident.
2 girls. Right behind me. They are laughing and they actaully have the nerve to say, aloud, "why everyone so quiet? damn!"
I was so infuriated on the inside from that. I mean, 3000 people of ur own fellow americans died and all we ask is for a minute of silence to reflect, and these girls are actually thinking its a good idea to open their mouths with stupid remarks, and they just couldnt do it.
At graduation, we have our valedectorian (sp?) come up and begin to give a speech, interesting btw. Then she gets to "... and i would like to thank my family, my friends, my teachers and my principal", and then someone from our own class decides to say "o really, like she did anything for us" (principal=female). Someone provides you with a school to educate yourself and all u can do is attack back at those who set u on the right track? I mean, i didn't like the principal too much because of a certain incident, but i keep it to myself. I'm just thinking that if anyone should think about messing with the principal, it should be the superindendent of school to do act upon it, not for us to disrespect someone not only in front of the rest of us, our families and staff, but also in front of her supervisor.

i never actaully turned my head to see who was doing the disrespect in both these examples...guess their col......nevermind

Yeah i agree. its really disrespectful to say something about the principal out loud like that during the speech. I know disrespect is just a word, but to me, its kinda like a feeling, somewhere around sadness or anger.

my last year at high school we had a performance about the holocaust and it had video of people who went through concentration camps and stuff, and i can remember people being complete s during the presentation, laughing and stuff and making stupid comments when it was quiet.

i was appalled by the sheer ignorance of those people to laugh about something as horrible as that. it was disgusting and i was ashamed to be in the same school for a moment.

in the end they are just attention whores. very rude attention whores

not everyone is the same, some are kind and respectful, and then there are those who are trash and have no respect for people.

some people are just lame like that and they cannot understand that life is not a joke and sometimes you must stand still and rememeber things that happened.

I thought the whole thing about 9 11 was kinda retarded the way the teens in the usa managed it. A lot did not give a crap!
I remember hearing some high school seniors saying the day after the event ' goodness what's all that crap on tv about terrorism , I wasn't able to watch any of my talk shows on tv last night '

LAMERS!

I don't know if this is american kids in particular or what but they really don't seem respectful of serious issues like that.

When I lived in France some afternoon we got into this class and this girl tells me that the president Francois Mitterand just died. I was in shock :( Well needles to say not too many days after that there was a minute of silence. I didn't see one single kid make fun of the matter. I still remember the moment even if it's been 5 years ( something like that ).

People are stupid don't forget that.

Most people have no respect for ANYTHING these days. At least most people under 30
