well, the reason why they dropped it is because they can afford to. The Gamecube was specifically designed to be an affordable console for both Nintendo and the consumer. To compare...both Sony and Microsoft lose money on each of their respective console sold and make the money back through software sales. Nintendo on the other hand, breaks even on their console sales, and makes money off software sales. So at the end of the year they post a larger profit than either Sony or Microsoft. If they really wanted to, they'd put the price down to $79 even.
As for why they decided to drop the price; well...a lot of mag's, sites and "analysts" criticized them for not being aggressive enough, and people blamed that as one of the main reasons why they're fighting over 2nd spot so closely with a new-comer; and getting their asses handed to them by Sony.
Nintendo isn't doing so good per say...but they're not in a crisis like many make it out to be. 2004 looks like it's going to be one of their best years in a LONG time game-wise (RE4, MGS, Baten Kaitos, Metroid Prime 2, Final Fantasy).

Baten Kaitos looks AMAZING... Monolith (The design team responsible for Xenosaga) and tri-Ace (The creators of the Star Ocean games and the original Tales of Phantasia, and my favorite game maker of all time) together... wow!
But you forgot Tales of Symphonia... reports out of Japan say this game is *FANTASTIC*. I'm a die-hard Tales buff myself :D |

You're right though. The game has received massive acclaim in Japan.

Hmm, noone seems to have commented that its obviously Leon in that video :D
I think it looks pretty cool.... too awashed in melodrama tho, but it might just be that video. |
