In Canada and Australia, it is not out of the realm of possibility. Police a few years ago caught some car thiefs in the northern part of Canada and they thought they were professional car thiefs but in reality they were 14 yr old boys who got bored and who's parents had been into drugs and prison and not watched the boys. They got like nothing cuz the young offenders act took over and you cannot give harsh penalties to kids like that. Australia and Canada are very similar because we both pushed the natives off the land then pushed them into reserves with some rights but our gov't don't want to deal with the problems. The Newfoundland Government took a big step last year to try to combat the problems because all these kids were sniffing gasoline and glue and everything they tried to do would not work. So the native leaders begged the government to do something and they did, they took most of the substance abusing kids by court order and took them about 60 miles away to a treatment centre away from the reserve. Hopefully it will help, there is no right answer in this problem but we need to find a solution because this is costing our governments a fortune. |
They have major crack downs in the nt (where this happened), if you steal 3 things, no matter what, it's automatic jail, no appeals (I think that's it from memory) |

its the same thing in America.
Most of the native indians here are alcoholics or abusing some other form of drug. The only ones that tend to be "succesful" are the ones that run casinos. |

lol thats so funny!
but seriously indiginous (sp?) health is a big problem here. some of the care they receive is shocking by 3rd world standards. many of them haven't seen doctors in years etc etc and live in little shacks and resort to drugs out of boredom. |
