what is Gruv-Glide doing to my records?

I've been using Gruv-Glide for roughly the last two months, I really like the stuff. thing is, I noticed last night on a few records I cleaned that when viewed in the light, weird multi-colored lines are appearing inside the grooves, normally in a line two or three centimeters thick, going toward the label. they only appear when viewed at certain angles, but they look really weird, and definitely weren't there before cleaning. I've always followed the directions for using it, and until now I've never noticed anything out of the ordinary with the hundreds of other records I've cleaned.
is this dirt stuck on those pads and its getting transferred into the record grooves, or are the pads too wet when I'm applying them? anyone seen this before or know how to fix it, if it's actually bad? |

Maybe they were so dirty that you couldn't see them before you cleaned them? I wouldn't use too much of it, it says on the box that if the records look wet when you are done that you are using too much..

| this is the second set of pads I've used, and after switching back to the old ones, newly-cleaned records didn't have the marks. there's a tear in one of the new pads, so I wonder if a bit of the stuffing was getting on the records...? I'm still curious how I can get these marks off, has anyone here tried wet cleaning records? |

| well it could be leaving a film on there since it does lubricate the vinyl [thats why it feels more slippery] the lines could either be doing a thinfilm effect... i dont think scratches are small enough to separate the wavelengths of light like that. |

| You should always give it a thorough cleaning before applying gruv glide. I always wet clean a new record w/ a felt record brush & a mixture of 1 part pure isopropyl alcohol and 4 parts water (i keep this mixture in a water bottle). Then after drying it, I apply gruv glide. The stuff builds up btw. |

I'd thought it might be a thin film left from the Gruv-Glide, but checking some really dirty records I haven't cleaned turned up the same marks.

do you just set your records out until they dry, or is there a brush you use for that? never done it before, which is why I'm curious. also, I've read about people using a "wetting agent" (like soap) to break down the water and get it inside the grooves of the record, as its surface tension normally won't let it enter the grooves.
anyone ever tried this? I'm not sure I'm up for putting soapy water all over my recs! |

dont use soap. use a wetting agent like jet dry for dish washers. use like 1-2 drops of it in a filled 0.5L water bottle of 3 parts water, 1 part alcohol.
i just spin my records dry on my decks. it takes a while but i'd rather not wipe it down with a cloth, which may get a lot of lint/dust back into the record. |
