how much money do labels "steal" from artists

I don't know how accurate this thing is.

The first contract I signed (still awaiting the vinyl release) is supposed to give me 50% of the profits, while the label gets the other 50%. This is ontop of the production costs, manufacturing, distribution, and all that. I think its pretty fair for the producer to get the same amount of money as the label does.

well like i said, i think it's different for people like us. this is more for top40 pop artists. still thought it was interesting tho.

Yeah, I saw something similar for us dutch people on some website. It's kinda cool, but it isn't exactly for our industry as you mentioned.

The amount of money you get also depends on what your contract looks like. Sometimes artists agree to receive one lump sum and sometimes they get royalties. It just depends on how popular the track will be.
