people should leave the past alone
It really makes no difference what "" he did in the past, it wont make a difference in my mind.
If he decided to do some wierd during his election campaign thats a difference story.
No one is perfect, thats why we learn from our mistakes. In his case, i bet he didnt think of being a politician at the time and just wanted to have the time of his life. |

anyway arnolds womanizing is just not from the 70s but as current as 2000. this whole enron/key lay stuff is from 2001 and still going on (we're trying to get our money back)
also, hello Echo of Silence. where you going to school? stanford? :D |

Ohhh poor you, come back to scandinavia :p (okay, i admit it, i'm also planning to go to US next year to study... guess it's great fun over there :)) |
Where will you study next year?
I have fun. But I have to study a lot to keep up with the others. During the summer, everywhere that I visited was very hot. The soles of my hiking boots melted in Arizona. Only here (Palo Alto), the weather is nice; a little like home possibly because of the coastal breezes.
(didn't mean to get off topic. Swartzenegger is leading the polls so I think he will be the governor. Personally, I do not think this is a good thing.) |

if im not mistaken, arnold went into politics in the early 90's, this deal was in 2001. its not too far back, and if these allegations are true, then the public should know about it. |

hi Rizen, I missed your post the first time. Yes, Stanford. Where are you?
The womanizing/sexual harassment stories start in the 70s but span the decades, as you point out. Some are relatively recent. I find them believable. One argument is why didn't the women report the incidents when they occurred? When a person in power (one who writes paychecks or one with the ability to make or break careers) behaves inappropriately, it is not typically reported.
The state's problems were not created by Davis yet many people blame them on Davis just because he is the governor when the problems erupted. Tomorrow is the big day. I hope it is interesting! |

It will be interesting. And I doubt anyone can predict what will happen.
Without California the rest of the country would have little to entertain themselves with :D

Well the thing with arnold is that he is running for governor. his womanizing isnt only 30 years back, but as late as of 2000. More are coming forward including a local radio host who did an interview with him in the late 70s when she was in her 20s
|
So let me get this straight:
It's ok for Clinton to womanize, but not Arnold?;)
Don't give me any BS about Arnold's sexual advances not being consensual, because you can say the same for Clinton.
I wouldn't vote for Arnold, but I was looking at Davis' voting record the other day. No way would I vote for him either.:nervous: |

Well if you ask me, that is partly true. Davis has been remarkably incompetant and indecisive when confronted with each crises as they arise. In addition to his apparent willingness to favor special interest groups, he failed to come to grips with handling the energy crisis and has singularly failed to control the legislature. Compared with his predecesor Pete Wilson, who faced a similar budgetary crisis, at least Wilson had the necessary skills and forcefullness to push through higher taxes and lower spending in his budget. Davis is simply too timid and not proactive enough to handle California's problems as they've developed.
But at the same time, I think a large part of California's problems stem from the people itself. One of the biggest problems I see with direct democracy is that most people are too stupid to realize the consequences of their actions. Allowing direct democracy when it's about regulations and laws is one thing ... allowing Californians to set the taxes and control the budget seems like sheer idiocy to me. What I'm talking about is proposition 13 which limited the state's ability to set property taxes and forced local governments to become more dependant on the state government. This was fine and dandy during the boom years when the state government was rich, but when the fiscal crunch hit, how was the state supposed to support local municipalities? The proposition was opposed by both state and local officials, warnings were issued, but it was still passed with 65% of the vote. Then you have proposition 98 which requires that a minimum of 40% of the general fund (representing four-fifths of the total state budget) be spent on primary and secondary schooling, then you have Proposition 42 dedicating the sales tax on gas to transport projects, you add all these initiatives together, and with what's left over around 70% of the general fund is off-limits to the politicians.
So although I think that Davis has been somewhat of an ineffective governor, I've said from the get go that replacing him is not going to solve most of California's problems because CALIFORNIA is most of California's problems. Despite the amusement of this whole election fiasco it's still depressing because CA is the world's fifth largest economy and a huge part of the US economy. Why couldn't this be happening to some place like south dakota??? |

Don't give me any BS about Arnold's sexual advances not being consensual, because you can say the same for Clinton. | when did clinton do something that wasnt consensual? i thought the only case that wasnt consensual was found to be not true and dropped. I'm sure if it was true, Starr would of been alot more happier ;)

I would of voted for republican Peter Ueberroth, but he dropped out. I found him, Arianna huffington (she also dropped, my personal favorite), and Peter Camejo (which I'm voting for tomorrow) to be the best canidates. Tom McClintock would be a good choice too if he wasnt so far to the right. |
