what i would have in my studio... hmm

I'd start it off with an insane computer, maxed out everything you could think of. Two 30" LCD displays. Oh, and I'd have a 50" plasma display hanging on the wall infront of the desk, hooked up to the comp. Speakers.. a nice pair of B&W Nautilus'.

(I will assume that these would work well as monitors because of their supposed audio quality).

To power them I would use a pair of Blue Circle BC8 MKII Monoblocks.

Then I'd have racks and racks of synths. All the classics. All the powersynths.. everything.

Hmm.. i dont really know what else there would be? maybe a pair of walhalla speaker cables. oh and a nice leather chair. and maybe a miniture fridge so i can have cold drinks whenever I want :tongue2

I guess that would be it. :thepirate

Of course there'd be a really powerful computer with two bigass flat screens... Lotsa VSTs and a great Edirol Midikb...

The powersynths all people here are gonna mention: Access Virus KC, Clavia Nord Lead 3, Roland JP-8000 etc

An interesting drummachine or two.

A huuge rack of effects and other plugins.

And of course two Technics SL-1200 MK5, Pioneer CDJ-1000 and umm... some great mixer.

thoose B&W nautilus wouldn't be a good thing to use as monitors since it's made for HiFi...they probably don't have a flat spectrum and so on :)

as for my dreamstudio, I'll be back with it soon :)

negative.

this is what I don't understand. people have a preconcieved notion that HiFi speakers add to a sound to make it more appealing. This is true in the regular consumer lines that you might find in your local Futureshop, but go up the foodchain abit to mid-high end hifi/home theater speakers and it's totally different. The majority of these companies strive for true neutrality. I would argue that many hifi speakers do a better job than so-called 'sudio monitors' (for the same price).

"Throughout his lifetime, John Bowers, the founder of B&W Loudspeakers, strove relentlessly to get as close as possible to a transparent reproduction of recorded sound."

"Alan Parsons is highly regarded in the recording industry. Principal engineer on Pink Floyd's 'Dark Side of the Moon', and producer of Al Stewart's 'Year of the Cat', Alan has worked with Paul McCartney, and has ten Grammy Award nominations to his name. Himself a dedicated musician (The Alan Parsons Project), the former chief recording engineer at EMI's Abbey Road Studios says of the new loudspeakers: "The Nautilus 800 Series will undoubtedly make a major impact on the professional recording world, and influence loudspeaker technology well into the millenium."

This was said about the nautilus 800 serious, a level down from the Nautilus (pictured in my previous post).

The Nautilus' design is specifically engineered to remove every trace of internal resonance (which could potentially colour the sound). The Seashell like bass driver was constructed in that fasion because it "delivered the most natural and untainted sound".

Seriously, these speakers would be EXACTLY what you want for monitors.

then why does pro-studios buy studio-monitors that are worth the same as the phatest nautilus...I promis you, you won't find the nautilus in a studio...and you also have to consider that the fact you wrote came from B&W themselves :)

although they would probably not be bad for monitoring (I mean hey, any speakers in the 20 000$ class should be good) I would rather go with monitors that are made for studio-use :)

I'd quite like a full orchestra locked in my cupboard.

Why don't you just get he Wilson Grand Slams while you're at it.

I better stop typing before I head down to Crystal Clear Audio and buy that Wadia transport.

hey cheggy
In my dream ass studio, a rich man gave to me

12 mega synths
11 pro fx
10 VSTs
9 plug in synths
8 sample cds
7 octave controller
6 Gig dual processors
5 monitor speakers
4 soundproofed walls
3 LCDs
2 drum machines
and an audio engineer chained to my wall.

I realize that some people will never accept this fact (for whatever reasons) but hifi speakers can actually work just as good (if not better) than "studio" monitors. Really, what is the difference between them? If both strive to achieve transparent sound reproduction, then what would make the "studio" monitors any better?
