EA Sports Curse

I read an article in a local publication which brought up an interesting subject: The EA Sports curse.
It seems that whenever a player gets on a the cover of any EA Sports game such as NHL, Madden, etc. they either have a ty year or their team does.
For example look at the recent NHL covers:
2001 Owen Nolan - Not a great season
2002 Mario Lemieux - Injured most of the year and his team was one of the worst in the league
2003 Jarome Iginla - Not a bad season but Calgary didn't do anything
2004 Dany Heatly - The year hasn't even started yet and, well...

the curse in madden games seems to be coming to an end....if the rams would give faulk the ball he'd still be great.
moss is having a great year.
eddie george still sucks.
then again, mike vick did have his leg snapped... |

ben tune appeared on the cover of rugby 2001
ever since then he was found to have failed a drug test and has had both his knees operated on
but that was a year later |

David Beckham appeared on the cover of Fifa 98...
... we all know what happened that summer but it can be said that he came back with a vengeance later that year to win a treble of honours with Man U next summer... |

| ok, heatley is perhaps in another league, tho he seems to have support- but what about royalties - what are the figures that the players see from the games|? |

The royalties probably to to the various Player's Associations for the rights to use the names, etc. I suppose the players would then maybe get a free copy of the game :p . Then their is the prestige of getting your face on the cover!!!
A couple more examples of the curse:
NHL 99 Eric Lindros - Collapsed lung in the playoffs
Triple Play 2001 Mike Piazza - Where did he go?
Triple Play 2002 Miguel Tejada Randy Johnson - Both had bad seasons
Madden 2002 Dante Culpepper - ty year and Vikings sucked
Madden 2003 Marshal Faulk - The Rams lost Warner and had an awful season |
