Jon O'bir - Best mixer?
View this Thread in Original format

Ive recently had the pleasure of listening to Obir's sets this weekend and was truly amazed at how smooth and clean his transitions were, and when the songs were mixed into each other. His beat matches were so dead on i couldnt tell when the song would end at some points. It was as if i was listening to a cd compilation of songs.

To me he is one of the best mixers out there, next to the GOD of mixing Paul van dyk. Truly underated in my opinion.

Anyone notice the same thing?

i wouldnt say he's underrated by any means, but yeah his mixing is mint. i still play the asot 100 mix of his a couple times a week...the mixing in that is prime like optimus

If anything I would say he was overated.

He is truly an excellent DJ, but he has only been mixing a short while and is still learning his craft. Being hyped up as 'god' is not going to help him one bit.

After all its when people/things are hyped up and then can't live up to the silly expectations people have, that they ultimately get put down.

EDIT:.. for Jon if he read's this (and he may well do). When I saw you in the booth last night towards the end of Ferry's set last night I was so hoping that Tall Paul had no-showed and they had got you there in his place. Sadly that wasn't the case :(

He is not underrated at all. at least not in the UK anyway. Everyone is starting to realise his talent and fair play to him, he's made a name for himself in a very short period of time. Also, I think he said he's got his first 6 hour set coming up in early 2004, so congrats to him. I shall be attending that :D

Top mixing deejays are John Digweed, Danny Tenaglia and Dave Clarke. You can hate their music style or them personally but all of them are probably the smoothest mixers out there. You never see them ing up (like tiesto).
