Yes yes, I know. No Dave Clarke, no Jeff Mills.
I've accepted the fact that if I want to hear Monika Kruse and Jeff Mills, I'm going to have to just make the journey over to Fuse. Who's with me? :D |

Jeff Mills has boycotted toronto ever since his infamous gig at system, a few years ago. He agreed to do 4 gigs in montreal, toronto, edmonton and ???. After the toronto show, he told the promoter doing it that he was doubling his fee for the next gigs or he was leaving and going home. He was paid 6K per gig, he wanted 12-13K for the next gig, even tho he had signed a contract for 6K. So he went home, saying he would never play Canada again (moody detroit techno deejays). Anyway during the system gig which I was not legal age back then but I had some friends that went to see mills. They said people tried to take pictures and he went ape saying they take pictures I leave, he was rude to the staff. So Jeff Mills swore he would never play Canada again in his life. I believe it's about 4 years later and he has kept his word. That has not stopped me and my friends from bothering him on his messageboard on axisrecords.com, we would answer the question then post at the bottom....PLAY TORONTO!!!!!!. Then again he is like most of the other detroit techno deejays, rude and immature.
Dave Clarke's new album is out on SKINT on October 28th/2003. He has no gigs listed for toronto in 2003. |

| When you say Detroit- DJ, you mean he plays Detroit techno, right? |

No no no
pm me sometime skipper and I'll tell you about the detroit techno history.
Basically to sum in up in a nutshell
Techno was inspired by chicago house with 3 friends who went to school together, derrick may, juan atkins and kevin saunderson. They started the genre and jeff mills is a friend of all 3 of them and he helped start UR with Mad Mike Banks. Technically detroit dj's are from detroit and play techno (not necessarily detroit techno) but they do play it more than say the european techno deejays then again most of them play stuff whatever they want.
Now about my earlier point, detroit techno deejays and producers
robert hood, kenny larkin, carl craig, stacy pullen, jeff mills, kevin saunderson, derrick may and juan atkins (some of them are very moody and very difficult to deal with). Most won't do interviews and if they do, they turn the tables on the interviewers and always rather let the music talk. Most are famous for causing havoc in nightclubs when things don't go their way. Heck Derrick May is so moody, he went into a production retirement that continues for the most part to this day because critics made fun of his 1993 album. He runs the detroit techno scene like a godfather, he blackballed blaxe baxter for some reason and no one would work with him. Hood, Larkin, Craig and Pullen and Atkins are easy people to approach but the rest are difficult. |

So the answer to my question is...yes. Jeff Mills is a "detroit" techno DJ because he plays a lot of Detroit techno.
I thought you meant Jeff Mills is from Detroit.
I'm familar with the history; I'm just clarifying what you were saying about Mills in particular. |
