After getting all kinds of feedback from you guys (Thanks again) last night I went and picked up
PVD
Out there and back
The Politics of Dancing
Surpisingly the store I went to didn't have much Armin so I picked up
Paul Oakenfold
A Voyage Into Trance
Tranceport
Now here is the problem. I obviously haven't listened to all of them but I have listening to half of the Oakenfold CDs and some of The Politics of Dancing and I'm listening to Out There And Back right now. They all seem like good CDs BUT it sounds like all the other Euro Trance I have listened to in the past. The way I see it is they are all good tracks but the problem is they don't have the buildups and breakdowns that all of my favorite CDs have. They don't get me pumped up and moving. To me they spin more of a melodic trance whereas I guess I like a harder (maybe I'm wrong) progressive house/trance.
Maybe you guys can help me out picking what DJs I would truly love. Below is a list of my favorite CDs.
Generation Trance 2000 (first Trance CD I ever bought got lucky)
DJ Micro (tracks like Blood is Pumpin. is sick I Love it)
George Acosta (Love the whole CD but the tracks that are really sick are Emotions, Nature Cry, Take Me High)
DJ Micro Tech Mix 2000 (Sound Barrier and See The light are nasty)
DJ Micro Tech Mix 2000 version 2 (This to me is more of a progressive house that turns into Trance) I Love this whole CD.
George Acosta Touched (The 2nd CD is probably the best I have ever heard. Time Traveler, The Beat Goes On, Silent Heart, Just the whole CD is sick)
George Acosta Awake (More of a euphoric Trance (at least that's how I describe it but a great CD)
George Acosta Members of X (More old school funky Trance)
The CDs I can listen to over and over again and they still give me chills. Now what would you Suggest?
Thanks,
N |

its not a CD, but you can download Ferry Corsten - Live at Trance Energy 2000, its a very good energetic set.
Paul Oakenfold - Perfecto presents another world
....is a good one, it builds up the climax of Timo Mass - Ubik
Another energic CD is: Carl Cox - Mixed Live (chicago crobar), its off moonshine. When i got the CD i was totally blown away. Amazing energy in this. |

The style of music you want is UPLIFTING TRANCE.
All the CDs you mentioned like George Acosta - Touched is PURE uplifting, no matter what anyone says.
Alot of the suggestions you've been getting such as Paul van Dyk's CDs, Oakenfold, Carl Cox etc... they're all different than what you want, they're leaning away from true uplifting trance but still considered trance... the style you want is not progressive or house if you like George Acosta like you said.
It's more uplifting trance that you seem to like since you are talking about breaks and buildups and tons of energy. The following are like the 3 most important DJs in the uplifting music scene. Ferry Corsten has released some very uplifting and energetic CDs such as:
Ferry Corsten - World Tour Series (So far there is Tokyo and Washington)
System F - Out of the Blue (This is an artist album, all his tracks)
Armin van Buuren is one of the better uplifting DJs right now although he seems to be mixing in more progressive in his recent live sets, but definitely check out some of his less recent CDs such as:
Armin van Buuren - Boundaries of Imagination
Armin van Buuren - 001, 002, 003, and 004 series
also definitely check out the following from Tiesto
Dj Tiesto - Magik 6 : Live in Amsterdam
Dj Tiesto - Summerbreeze
Dj Tiesto - In Search of Sunrise (1 or 2, 3 is a bit more progressive)
Magik 6 has tons of energy and very uplifting tracks while Summerbreeze was a CD intended for the American public and expose them to more uplifting trance. The In Search of Sunrise series was intended to be a more melodic and uplifting trance than his Magik series which was more for the nightclub setting, but still uplifting and tons of energy. Take a look at those if you get a chance!
Enjoy, these CDs are what defines uplifting! |

ha, i'm not surprised.
what store was it? around the boston area newbury comics is a decent music store for trance - i got a couple cds that i wouldn't expect them to have, gatecrasher resident transmissions 02, ltj bukem's progressions, hybrid's wider angle... |

You guys rock! Thanks!
I do like Ferry I have a couple of his CDs I'll look into the titles mentioned. I'll also plan to pick up some Armin and Tiesto (Although I have SummerBreeze and Magik 7 and they bored me) Maybe 6 is more uplifting or maybe I need to give them another listen. I have heard his older stuff is more uplifting. I have purchased over 80 Trance/House CDs in the last 3 years and I only love about a dozen of them. Maybe I'm just too picky.
Whiskers I went to FYE because I can sample the CDs there. I do go to Newbury Comics quite a bit and they do have a good selection. I'm in Manchester, NH btw although I get to Boston quite a bit. What's the hot spots for DJs there these days? Still the Avalon? |
