there are some pics of it in the pic thread (on tribe)tho.

in my amateaur opinion, these variables likely played in part, not everything is stuff that could have been foreseen by a promoter:

-weekend after massive long-weekend party at guvernment (ppl usually don't want to go out th enext weekend unless they are more entrenched in the scene)
-location that has an iffy repuation and no real weekly draw
-most students have mid-terms right now
-a lot of ppl have colds/illness right now (likely a lot that went to guv last week..it seems that the combo of partying all night and being w/n in a close proximity makes a lot of ppl sick)
- cost of tickets- compared to system where it is easy peasy to get some sort of list- i know i haven't paid to go there since i can't remember
- scumfrog playing the same night- never having played in TO before

** at the same, i don't think that having party after a big GUV party is teh kiss of death. TR booked Dumonde the weekend after L of L and that was a big sucess (this probably also had to do w/ the fact that dumonde had never been there before (and many ppl had been awaiting them) and the club had a strong regular clientele)

I don't doubt that many efforts were taken to make the night go well (extra lights, making sure teh sounsystem was in top form). the fact that you guys did teh fruit trays make me have a pang of sadness (i think then when parties provide fruit it's such a thoughtful thing :))

i'm not sure what else could have helped.

perhaps making a contest to give out some free passes, or giving out more free passes to women especially (so even if you didn't make $ you woiuld still have the appearance if a fuller club which might have helped w/ future events) and atleast would have increased sales at the bar- and I say give passes to women b/c 1) they will bring their guys friends (2) obviously it's better to have women in the clubs b/c guys will stay where the women are.

In addition, it probably was a bigger challenge b/c teh promoters are from k/w. i'm guessing that they know ppl in toronto, but probably not as many as many local promoters. i'm sure they brought ppl down from k/w but i realize that that can be difficult.

as i mentioned earlier, best of luck in the future to all of those involved,

Wow,
Some people need to grow up.....

Anyways Myself and a few of my closest attended the party and thought it was great! The staff right up to the door man was very courteous in seeing that we were looked after. We got there as Greg Benz was warming up the crowd with more melodic stuff. Looked like he was having a good time and it was transparent through the crowd.
John OO hit the decks to a half empty room but smiles were all that you could see from the Trance Legend. He played some wicked hard trance that kept me moving. Apart from the wicked music, the vibe in the club was very friendly as well. I didn't know a lot of the tracks he spun as it has been a while since I attended a trance party but it was def'n not cheese and that made me happy.
I have to thank the fresh crew for throwing the party, and as for those who are bashing these guys for throwing a party because it is on the weekend after another big party or cause scumfrog was there, give your head a shake. This John OO Flemming and throwing a party does take some risk, I think these guys hold a lot of class in trying to provide us partiers with a good night out and you know what even know the party may have cost them some coin, they can still say they threw a wicked party and those who were there enjoyed themselves. Grow up people...

BTW went over to Scumfrog after the party and had a blast to finish the night off. Wasn't there long enough to give a decent review but saw a couple of TA's. Hope everyone had a good weekend.

I hear all your comments and enjoy listening to all your opinions...
Well taken and well put for the most part. I agree with allot, but it doesnt change my personal opinion... After 3 years of doing this I have found out in a harsh way that my views of a party have become twisted from my "Rave" begginings and philosophies to what is now majoritivly just a club scene. Basically put I cannot do what I set out to accomplish right now, But damn if I didnt give it a hell of a good shot... and I know people respect me for that alone because I actually DID it, which takes allot more ballz than you may think... any promoter will tell you that.

Its unfortunate that some just sit back and spit out jaded coments like 'mju:zik did... dude you must have no clue to be that ignorant! to you the word PLUR has no meaning, and never will. Even if we did make bad decisions in you mind, there is no need to piss on an open wound.

We are not blaming anyone or mad at anyone for not coming out, you do as you please and that is all we would ever ask... just enjoy doing what YOU do and respect others for what they do, and our scene will stay alive... without unity what do we have?

It's too bad this thread has been more of a fight than a review.

Mark T, the apology is much appreciated. My response was an impulse to something I found offensive and hurtful. At any rate, this board is supposed to be positive and let's keep it that way.

Again I reiturate, we didn't find out about the events surrounding ours until the deposit for John was in and flyers were printed. Even if turning back was an option, it doesn't change the fact that the Guvernment packed the place the very next night after our party with a dj (as good as he may be) that people can see 3 times a week. I think that says a lot.

I guess we can attribute the flop to many things; beleive me, the past few days has left us wondering too. And Tara you make good points, there are a plethera of reasons why people didn't show. Yet at the same time, we had 100 paying customers to see John '00' Fleming... a man who has packed every Toronto venue he's played in. 100 people paying to go to our event not only leaves us scratching our heads, but let's face it guys, it doesn't leave us with alot of hope or desire to do it all over again once the hefty bill is paid. It's just not worth the time, money or heartache. We tried and it didn't happen I guess. We're not poitning fingers or putting on guilt trips, just chaque it up to it not being meant to be.

At any rate we're proud of what we've done. We threw a world class party on Friday night; it honestly would have been one of the best nights in Toronto in years if more people would have come out. We tried really hard to make it happen and provide people with an alternative to the norm and I don't regret it in the end. Thanks again to everyone who believed in us, it kept us going perhaps longer than we should have! ;)

thanks, because I sincerely meant it...and you're also absolutely right about keeping it positive in here. My misguided remarks were also made on impulse and I'll try keep that in check from now on ;)

It sucks your party didn't turn out as well as hoped...it's unfortunate that in a city of this size that both parties couldn't thrive. Congrats for bringing J00F into town...obviously it was more other factors that resulted in the low attendence...like I said, circumstances being different, I'd have been there. Deciding between seeing J00F again and seeing Scumfrog, who I've really loved this past year or so, was hard...but I'm at least thankful that in TO we actually HAVE decisions like that to make...thanks to promoters like Dennis and the people @ System.

so let's get on everyone's case that didn't go out at all now :tongue2 j/k

hey Fresh, I'm just wondering if you guys might ever consider throwing smaller scale parties perhaps only featuring local DJ's in the future after this fiasco is put well behind you? Just letting you know that not all hope is lost ..

Personally, I think you guys gid a good job with the party. It's very difficult as the new guys in town, and all these people critisizing and name-calling....get a freakin' life and get some respect!!!. You see these guys were not handed an already packed club to deal with. They had to attract their own crowd, not rely on a regular crowd that someone else built and maintains.....read: System & Viva Friday's
It's real easy to throw a party when you already know it's gonna be packed before you even organize the party.

Props to you guys for the great effort in really a tough environment!!

Hope to see you guys out there again poundin' the streets

yeah we do a weekly @ Revolution in Waterloo, this weekend we have ur own Walter Mindz and Dennis Playing.

Our jump to T. was attempted due to there being just not enuf partiers in the Tri City's area to bring such a big name in and excpect a good turnout. We are still going to be running strong in our own local residencies at least for the rest of this school year.
