i have never lived away from home before. i grew up in one town, went to school 20 mintues away (i took my laundry to my parents house all thought college) and now my work is 20 mintues from where i grew up as well. this summer i made a big move and got an apartment 50 miles away (1 hour) from my parents house but in 2 1/2 weeks i am moving 3000 miles away for 8 months. i am really excited but i havent never not seen my mom for more than a month. makes me kinda sad...

i feel your pain. i just moved away from everything (ny to germany) 2 months ago. i am used to seeing my mom often but now i havent seen her, so i feel the same as you.
just surround yourself with friends and get out often to make new friends. i have since made 2 close friends since being here so i keep myself occupied with that. just remember keep yourself occupied at all times. run, walk, go out shopping, take up a new project, reading etc.
more things that you do to keep yourself occupied will keep your mind off how far away you are. it works for me! just keep busy!

you'll be fine! Sure you can visit each other every few months, think about the freedom though! nice new city! lots of new people! I'd love to head out there for 8 months!

i'll have to come and visit some time :)

3000 miles away? so u'll be about 6-7 away from me? damn the world's a big place!

independence is a bliss, but it has it's drawbacks... then again, the issue here is distance. Dunno how that must be. I'm planning on going to Europe and then Asia in about a year or two, so I should get used to the idea of being far from my ppl. :D tell us how it turned out ;)

I compromised and stayed in my city to go to colleg eand i regret that because i have remainded coddled. But I hope you have a good time over the next 8 months..knoiwing people and having someone special that also knows people helps a lot,,as the other person said :)

I would give anything to move away from my mom... she's so annoying.
